What has been the best set up for a 05 Rage going from stock to 7000ft. It has 22/39 gears. 148 main and 45PJ.
Primary spring B-G-B
Weights 8ES With 17.2 steel outer 13.9 Inner
Secondary Pink spring @ 60*

Thanks for the info.

PS Anybody ever go with PlanetPowersport to West YellowStone?

The setup I have is for 6000 feet and up. Gearing will have to go to 20/39 (68L). Main jets go down to 145 and pilots are good stock as well as number of turns out. As far as the primary spring, stock was L-G-L and it gets changed to a G-G-G. You stated B-G-B, which I imagine means Blue-Green-Blue. L-G-L is the same, L=Blue to Yamaha. The clutch weights rivets will have to be drilled out and left open. The secondary spring is good as is. This is real easy to change and only takes a couple of hours. I change two of my sleds for lower elevation for a week long trip we take to Wisconsin every year then change it back for higher elevation here in Wyoming.

No the 70 link will not work. You will have to change the chain to a 68 link. I know that's unfortunate, because those chains are expensive.

Thanks for your help. I am thinking that for just one weeks riding it may not be worth the money for chain and gears. If riding at altitude was something I could do year after year, I may consider it. The jets and clutching are in the plan.
I see in the book, going to a 40 lower gets me to 1.82 ratio vs. 1.77 stock. Still not as good as1.95 the 20/39 would give me. But only a gear is needed. But still, at $150. it is a strech. Or do you think I should still consider it?

sled

Pistons I have take my vector out west a few times last year.If your only going once.I woulkdn't waste money on the gears.I have the jests that I never used I bought them and then sold then got rid of the sled.So I will give you a hell of a deal on them.

So you must have not bothered to change jets either? If the price is to good to pass up I would take them. Mailing them would probably be the best way. You can call me 419 579 4160 cell

jets

I will call you next week.No I didn't rejet it ran a little sluggish.I also fouled out a set of plugs. Then I said screw it I'm rejetting next time.

Recalibration

Pistons

I recalibrate two sleds for lower elevation every year, then when I get back, it is all changed back for higher elevation. Since I do this every year, to me it is worth the time and money.

If you are only going once it is probably not worth the time or money. But as a minimum I would recommend rejetting. It is always a good idea to keep the engine happy. Just keep in mind that you will not have the same power at a higher elevation than you are used to at a lower elevation. Reclutching/regearing will get you the most usable power the machine is able to make, but for a one time deal it is tolerable.

I would agree with gmcsport, you will be disapointed with the performance if you do not change out the gearing and chain plus if you get off the trail at all you will need the power and your not going to have it with out it. if you plan on staying on the trial you will be able to live with it but you will be under powered.

I completly agree with gmcsport and fixpowersports recommendations. I will rejet from 148 to 145, change primary spring to g-g-g, and change rivets to None or what the service manual says- steel outer@10.3 and inner@al,10.3
But on the other hand I may want to let it rev a little more with the No rivets, if I don't change the gears like the book says.
If I see a little extra $$$ before the trip I will regear to 20/39
