I briefly looked at it, and it seems like a major hassle. Is there any tricks to removing it?

Just remove rear suspension easy to take apart then.

Take the skid out. Use ratchet straps to compress slightly to take tension off and remove shock. Why do you want to take it off?

hey
I'm getting both shocks revalved and a new spring on the front shock. This is my first yamaha, so im still learning about it. Is removing the rear skid hard? Iv taken polaris and arctic cat skids out, but they didnt have springs. I took the rear shock out in a couple minutes, but the front one is tough to get to.

4 bolts and skid comes out. Just have all shocks bolted in to put skid back in. Compress the skid also prior to skid installation. Takes the " dag nab it" out of it during installation. I used hygear for shock rebuild. Both ends.
