For all the people that run with the reverse bolt broke. You must have ALOT better luck then me. Mine broke on my last saturday mid ride. Rode it sunday and lost Reverse mid ride. Tore it apart today to see what happened in there. Well the Part on the case that holds the Reverse shaft Broke. Tore up the 3 Reverse gears, took out bottom bearing, chain and the 2 regular gears. Also broke the case. So do not run with that bolt broke bad things can and will happen. Thankfully Michelle is taking care of me in a way that i can not be more thankful for. BTW did you know Yamaha redisgned this whole problem for 2010.

????

Just wondering how the bolt got out of the collar to cause such dammage?? I have changed my bolt three times and every time it was just inside of that collar with nowhere to go.

The bolt that broke on mine was not the one inside the collar on the lower gear. it was the one that goes through the case into the shaft that the Upper Reverse gear is on. Maybe i had a different bolt break then most. Ive never had the one on the lower gear break. Are you guys torqueing it to the proper spec?

my lower bolt was lying in the bottom of the chain case when i took it apart. Fortunately nothing happened

It breaks, I don't believe there is a real fix. I have had two different ones torqued to spec and they are always broke....

was changing my track out Sunday and my bolt is BROKE
looking to get one from fastenal?
10mm x 50mm long

ps they had to order it have thursday

2500 miles without the bolt

Hey philsummers21

It sounds like you are talking about the 10 mm bolt that holds in the reverse sub-system gears in the chain case. The small gears that have the little tiny spring between them that always seens to fall out when you take the chain case apart. Its one of the small bolts you have to take out to get the cover off correct?.

I have never heard nor read on here one of those breaking but I could see how it can cause a lot of damage becasue that shaft that the gears spin on and the bolt goes into is only held in place by that 10 mm bolt. the other end of that shaft is held by a plate that only keeps the sheft from spinning. Well that and the small collar that is part of the chaincase cover itself. It sounds like that little coller on the cover gave out allowing the gears and shaft to fall into the chain case. :o|

Was there any way that that bolt might have been over torqued? its such a small bolt it shouldnt have that much on it It could have been just a bad bolt as well there have been more then a few bolts on the '08 sleds that have been replaced and updated since the sled came out

The broken bolt that most people refer to and sometimes even run without in the chain case is the large bolt that holds the lower main 40t gear at the bottom of chain case. Since the bolt bottoms out in the axle the bolt seems to shear off over time. I actually put a washer on the bolt to see if that would keep the bolt from bottoming out once it is torqued

Michelle is awesome ;)! . she has helped more then a few poeple on here including myself. Glad to hear she was able to help you out as well,

good luck with everything

Change it out for a grade 8 bolt, end of issues. You can get one at any hardware store.

mine was NOT bottomed out!
had to drill thru it to EZ-out it
looks like OE bolt must be @ 45mm long
looks like a grade 10 ??
the grade 8 will work

My Nytro went in the shop on Saturday due to me losing reverse. They called me up today to inform me that a bolt was broken in the chain case (didn't specify which one) and that there was a few missing parts inside the chain case as well. One of the parts is a plate or something. Not sure if this is common, but if it is, it's the second time it's been replaced because I bought this sled from PhilSummers21.
