I just picked up my 09 XTX last week, and have a newbie question.
How are these things supposed to behave in reverse? Mine is still on the trailer, and I can't get back it off. I pull out the reverse lever, push it down (contrary to the diagram, mine doesn't really push in much in the lower position...if that's a clue).
As opposed to forward, where the clutch appears to engage smoothly and normally, in reverse I have to rev it really high, and then the track spins a little bit, and I'm getting a burning smell. Needless to say, I stop at this point. Yes, the parking brake is off, and the skis are on glides (so the issue is not the carbide digging into the trailer deck).
I was hoping to go riding this weekend. Can anyone suggest a simple adjustment to correct this? Thanks.

Can you try raising up the rear of the sled so that the track is not touching the trailer bed? This way, you should be able to tell if it's really engaging or not.
Perhaps check your chain tension. It could be binding up in there.
Or an adjustment with the linkage is in order.

Just pull forward a few inches.

Thanks for all replies. It turns out that my sled is not getting enough traction on my flatbed ATV trailer, parked on a slight hill. I'll be adding something to the trailer deck (such as a traction mat) as soon as the stores open tomorrow!

Check with your dealer and see if they have any junk tracks laying around. Cutting one of those and screwing that to the trailer works awesome, and can be done pretty cheap.
