Nice post! You seem to be fair and objective. After about 180 miles in the saddle for me I also see no reason to fiddle with springs or valving on my Attak GT. I'm 6'3" and 200 #.
Can't wait to get back out!

Great post and very informative. I bought a new 2006 left over Attak and I can only add the following:
Having been a previous Viper owner (10,429 miles) I thought that sled was pretty quick. Let me tell in two words - IT's NOT. The Attak is so so so so much faster, I couldn't believe the difference. I raced my friends 04 Viper and it was LIGHTS OUT after 10 feet. I let my friend ride my Attak and I climbed on his Viper, I though I was riding a Kitty Kat. I cannot believe the difference in ride & power. If anyione is on the fence regarding 4-Stroke sleds, they're worth every penny - They ROCK!
Mines the Blue one... to me... it's one BAD RIDE...

Hi There......I'm new to the site and new to Yamaha! I bought an Attak GT this year and have yet to ride it due to lack of snow.

Very nice review, I couldn't agree more. I wouldn't be too anxious to get in the powder though. They deffinately need some work in the floatation dept. (I guess that's why there's a mtn. version). Anyhow, enjoy your ride and thanks for the review.

Nice review, enjoyed the read. I just bought my first sled a couple of weeks ago and got a leftover '06 Attak, heading up to Quebec for the second time this season.

Took my 07 attak gt out for the first time last night. I was very happy with the power. I came from a good running 05 mach z and was not dissapointed last night at all.
With 0 miles on it, I was able to pull about 10,000-10,200 rpm. I am new to four strokes, but everything I have been reading is the power and rpms will increase as the motor breaks in?
From my first impression, Yamaha has a winner with this sled.

Takes almost 300 miles to see the right RPM's, but at least 1000 miles to see it's true potential of the motor.

GREAT POST 4 FIGHTER THANK FOR THE INFO, AS I TOO HAVE A 2007 ATTAK GT AND HAVE HAD NO SNOW TO RIDE. DO YOU KNOW IF THE DEALER INCREASE THE PRELOAD ON THE SHOCK IN THE REAR SUSPENSION FOR YOUR WEIGHT OR IS IT STILL STOCK.

It's still stock pre-load, but I'm going to have the dealer dbl. check today with the gear on and 600 on the ticker.

Great review...picking up my 07 attak gt tomorrow....the more I read the larger the grin on my face gets....taking a lot of heat from the old "doo" pals about switching to yamaha....but wait till they get on mine and ride it...I just hope they are honest about how really SWEET it is....

At 800 miles, the rear suspension is pretty much broken-in, my dealer adjusted the pre-load to the stiff side of my weight (250#). I went up there with my gear on and they had me sit on the sled. It's a very plush setup, valving wise, but overall it's still a great ride.
I have turned the re-bound down 2-clicks to reduce bucking. That's 4 clicks from box setup, total now.
As to be expected with the front-end breaking-in, I am starting to notice some ski lift, and pushing in the corners as the skis are not biting as hard anymore, and that's with new 6" carbides and still no studs.
I may explore some minor adjustments up front.
The extra tall windshield looks better than I thought it would, and it works really good for my above avg. height. It adds a tremendous level of comfort on sub zero *F days, as it compliments the troublesome Modular bucket, and keeps it from freezing my face.
