I have several issue with my RS Venture TF that I would like input on. For those members in the US the Venture TF is a longer version of the RS Venture available in Canada but not in the US.
Anyway, on to my issues. First off I have 400kms on the machine and I have had several problems. The first was an overheating light came on. The temperature that day was +2 degrees celsius and I had my wife on the back and my 2 year old on front. All day I had to scoop up snow onto the running boards to keep the light from coming on again. Had the dealer bleed it but nothing came out. What is the deal with the RX over heating issues and how were they addressed.
Also on that same day I had a code 84 error (TORS switch) acting up. Dealer cannot reproduce this either. However, several other people on this site are experiencing the same issue.
Tonight I looked at my slides and it looks like they are half worn out already with slightly less then 400kms. My 2001 Venture 600 tripple had over 6000kms on the original slides. Don't tell me I am going to replace slide 2 or 3 times a year.
Any thoughts on these issues would be appreciated.

Yammi rider,
I am sad to hear you have those issues with your new Venture. I switched this year from Ski Doo to a RS Venture, but before I did I talked too many people about the Yamaha over heating problem and I was told it was no big deal. I have friends who DID have issues of overheating on their 4 stroke Yamaha sleds the last few years when I was riding right next to them on a Ski Doo with no problems.
I used to have an Exciter in the mid 90's and it experienced problems with the TORS system. That was my other concern before buying a Yamaha again. I was told they worked the bugs out of that system. It does not sound like it
Well, when I read your post about your troubles it made me very concerned. I know one thing, winter is too short to be screwing around bringing the sled back to the dealer all the time or worrying about throwing snow on your running boards to keep your sled from overheating. I guess I will wait and see if I have the same problems you are having and if I do, I will sell it ASAP and get something else, probably not made by Yamaha. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have also purchased the rs venture tf but, unlike you I have not got the chance to try my machine yet. On my last ski-doo 98 yamaha venture 600 I would have a similar problem with overheating problems on warm days with little or no powder to flick up underneath the machine. What was the conditions like the day you drove your skidoo ? & other than these two problems how was everything else? I can't wait to try out my new venture !
Oh & also like yourself I will usually be riding with two passangers I was wondering where will you be stoaring your extra gear while out on the trail since yamaha didn't put a senseable back rack on the new ventures unlike the older venture modles!
If you find out antything on the two problems you had with the macine could you please let me know, in case I may experience the same thing !

Conditions were not bad +2 degrees but 12 inches of hardpack and powder. My 2001 Venture tripple never saw the light come on even with +15 degrees and running it hard. I am wondering what is going to happen when I run into warmer temps in the spring when the snow really gets hardpacked. May have to think about an optional cooler for the rear of the tunnel. The Vector mountain has one that may fit.
I also find the suspension a little stiff as well. When I ride with my 2 passengers it is perfect on the lowest settings. However, what that means is when I solo ride it is extra stiff on the woops.
String extra gear is going to be a challenge actually. I have not figured that one out yet. Yamaha does make an optional carrier that is not on their website yet but I have pics but I can't seem to post them. I get an error. If you would like to see them give me your email address and I will send them.
I will post info If I resolve my issues.
By the way where in Newfoundland are you. I am in Goose Bay Labrador.

I also have an 05 Venture . I have 325KM on it I have not had any problems with it . I am happy with the ride it came set at medium and I
left it there . I could probably go to low as it only bottomed out once in all that time . I think the track is to tight and I am going to back it off a little .
That could help with your hy fax wear . Also they wear really fast at first and then they last a long time . Don't change them to quick but keep an eye on them . You will be surprised how long they last .
The only thing I don't like is the track noise ,I have been told it will be a little better after I loosen it .

Does the 05 Venture have a rear cooler? If it dosn't, install 1 ASAP. Also to help the over heating and the slide rail ware, add ice scratchers, I purchased mine for the RX1 Mountain, at Mountain Performance.

When I first rode my RX I had bled the cooling system as per the service manual and the light came on a few times then I read on this site somewhere on elevating the front of the sled so i drove the right skii up on a snowbank so it was elevated and the coolant cap was the highest point I let it idle there for a short time and then shut it off and waited for a minute or so and opened the cap slowly and a very large air bubble burped up into the coolant resivoir I havent had any problems since.

1) Overheating problems are common on new engines that aren't broken in.
2) The cooling system actually depends on you MOVING. If you are driving around with a 2yo, you are not really moving - consider a rear heat exchanger.
3) Slider wear happens fast at the beginning, then slows. Wait until it actually gets to the line before you change them and make sure your track isn't too tight.
4) TORS - throttle cable adjustment. Make sure that you have some slack in the cable. If you don't like TORS, disconnect it and put on a tether, but doing that really SUCKS.
--- there is another possible reason for the TORS going on. The way it works is that the force of your thumb pushes the lever in the slot to close the circuit. If the carb springs are too soft, then you may not fully close that switch. RS is a 3-carb, so naturally its cable force is lower than RX - for which there have been no TORS related issues that I can recall hearing about. Try changing the way you hold the throttle, push towards the pivot instead of straight into the bar. All the TORS sleds since the "issues" have been resolved have been slide carbs (except RX and RS), so don't compare to a two-carb vmax.

05 RS Venture I can't beleive how fast my sliders are wearing I am just over 400km and they are almost done .I am hoping that it will stop now and last for a long time but i am starting to doubt it .I wonder if I should go to graphite sliders . Do they have a down side .

Definitely get graphites when you decide to replace. They melt at a much higher temperature than plastic resulting in MUCH longer life.

What are your snow conditions like?
I had the same problem with mine. Got 550 kms now but have a new set ready to go on. My conditions were what I would call average. Since the last snowfall we have had they are lasting a little longer, but now I am conscious of it and I am always darting into loose snow when ever I get a chance in hopes to extending their life a little longer. I expect to see slide rails any day now. I may have to go to graphite as well if they work much better.
