I am considering purchasing an 07 RTX. I had an 06 GT and I have an 07 Attack so I know about them. I have never rode the RTX and don't hear much from the RTX owners on here....that could be good or bad. What problems do the RTX's have? How would you compare it to the GT?
Thanks.

STIFF!!! I can not believe the difference in the GT and the RTX but I LOVE my RTX, in the chop & moguls it is a blast. After a 300 mile day in the UP; even on smooth trails the seat is stiff and you may be bothered by this after your back surgery?

I live about 5 minutes from Powersports1 and you are more than welcome to take mine for a ride!

I only bought the RTX because Im a fat bastard and needed the beefier suspension.

But so far I love it, Im going for a ride nwo I had it set up way too stiff and the trails are all moguls. Just simple adjustment on the shock and I can see a difference already just bouncing it up and down in the garage.

The track looses tension as the suspension compresses, causing ratcheting. You must compensate by either limiting suspension travel, running the track banjo string tight, or installing a new track to allow you to run extroverts. I would not buy another until the suspension has been modified to eliminate this problem.

ahicks is right that they can be prone to ratcheting unless the track is very tight and IMO they are not setup very well from the factory (at least the 07s were not; 08s might be better).

I'm a very aggressive rider and I like a firm suspension that can handle big bumps. To me this suspension is so far from being stiff enough for high speed aggressive riding it doesn't warrant the RTX label. In stock form it is extremely easy to bottom out compared to any modern high performance Skidoo, Polaris or Cat.

At the same time, the shock valving is set up very stiff for low speeds so you end up with a stiff, jarring ride over smaller bumps at lower speeds.

When you start to speed up and start hitting some bigger bumps it bottoms out all the time. You can add the Yamaha anti-bottoming kit, but then the shock valving doesn't provide enough rebound damping and you end up with major kickback over bigger bumps. Basically at first it feels like you're riding a very stiff rough trail capable sled, but once you start riding it hard the suspension performance fails miserably.

The 07 RTX to me is a great starting platform that needs some major recalibration to turn it into a great sled. The basic components are very durable and it can handle very rough riding without breaking, but to make them perform well you really do need to revalve the shocks.

The Monoshock suspension is better calibrated right from Yamaha so if you're looking for a better ride, don't expect it from the ProActive.

On the other hand if you've been breaking the Monoshock pivot arms and rails then the ProActive is definitely for you, but recognise that the ride isn't great and they often ratchet as shipped.

I've recently compared my RTX to an 08 REV-XP MX-Z 800R X-Package. That X-Package (Skidoo's rough trail option) is set up so much better than the RTX it is amazing. The REV soaks up the bumps instead of jarring you and with big bumps it doesn't bottom out nor try to bounce you off the sled.

I'm sure the RTX can be calibrated to ride just as well and I'm in the process of revalving my shocks right now (actually Mike Carver; Yamaha's factory snow cross suspension guru is). With my buddies all starting to pick up these new REV-XPs (replacing their Apex's) I need to do something significant to stay ahead in the rough stuff...

Just rode Tug Hill with lots of chop and moguls, and the xp's are dogmeat..they bounce all over the trail and keep popping left right over the chop. Seen about 20 , and those guys were getting beat up. My revalved, beefed and rewelded mono was stable at 80 plus while they bounced and had to slow. No contest. One motocross racer with us on an old MXZ couldn't believe how bad they take small bumps. Maybe they are good on big jumps, but those guys were getting a workout for sure. Even the cats we saw were better than those xp's. One guy kept trying to juice me he was so mad a tanker was playing with him. Just the view from my rtx on one particular day.
And yes, I have ridden them, and yes, they do not bottom like the Yams, but shock revalves make a world of difference.

Only complaint I have so far is the damn rear suspension. It bottoms WAY too easy. Kicks like a mule sometimes(i've been kicked by a mule and it is very similar!). I messed with the rear adjuster and the front shocks a lot over the last week still the same with the bottoming out.
Other than the rear suspension this sled rocks.
Lots of power and lots of torque. Motor runs flawless so far with 2700k on it.
Rick.

Send the shocks to one of the revalver guys, like Pioneer, and tell them how you ride and how much you weigh. Yes, it's a pain, but I've never seen any version of an SC10 whatever ride good..they just do not bottom out...progressive rising rate suspensions work, but falling rates always ride better..just need to control the bottoming.

Keep in mind I was comparing the special order X-Package, not the regular MX-Z. The X-Package is the big bump, snow cross wannabe package with adjustable shocks all around.
