I was wondering if anyone runs there sled in the summer months just to keep the fuel moving through the system and the motor lube. I have pulled the belf off during storage and have ran it a few times to about 5,000 RPM; 4,000 RPM the primary engages and make a contact sound. Is this a bad idea to do? The clutch sheave look great and I thought it would be a good idea to have the primary involved in the engine warm up.

Do the sheaves actually make contact when a belt is in place?

Thanks!

I know if your just grab the throthle to quick you can explode the cluthes. I have heard of people doing this

Yes I would think they would close all the way at top rpm even with the belt on. This would in effect be the top gear possible for most speed. If you keep your rpm down it should not hurt anything. I start mine up during the summer but leave the belts on.

I say stabilize the fuel, put a battery tender on it, and DON'T start it at all through the summer. All you end up doing is creating moisture and putting water in the oil. And since you don't really "run" it up to operating temp, that water never gets "heated" off. I am not a fan of the monthly idle runs. Just my 2 cents. It's like a car, the ones that get driven 1 mile to the store and back each day, are the ones that develope issues in time.

As per Yamaha:

"Do not attempt to store the snowmobile by simply starting the engine occasionally during the storage period. This can cause more harm then good! Moisture and acids form during combustion which can actually increase the chance for corrosion damage during the storage period."

This was taken right out of the '07 owner manual

I have done this for years and have never had a problem. The times I have not done this is when it is a bear of a time to get my sled running. I am not a fan of the acid thing and condensation. Whenever you have heat and cold there is always a potential of having water. I would think the worst is at hand when we run em' in the dead of winter; such a huge degree of temperature differences.

I have owned 4 Yamaha 4 strokes and have never used stabil or fog , I start mine over the summer in a stand and heat the engine hot enough to burn off the crap out of the pipes.

Make sure your track is loose and give the skid a dose of wd and grease it and put it to bed ,why all the stress over this are you storing the sled at the bottom of a lake.

I would be more worried about mice chewing your seat off ,so put some moth balls under the hood.

;)!

Somewhere in Conneticut you also attend or spend time at Central Connecticut State University ;)!

Works most of the time but some PC whizzes know how to block or spoof IP's

So much for IP addresses. I'm not trying to make a credibility statement but I have been here in the Music City for 17 years now and originally from Chicago. Me and the boys get together 2-3 times a year to wreak havoc on the U.P.! 1400 miles this year...not too bad for a hillbilly :4STroke:
