Good Day,

I am a new member to this forum, but have been riding Yamaha’s all my life. I currently ride an 03 RX1, and am overall happy with its performance.

Here is my question; I have recently started riding on long trips where we ride trails for about 150-200 miles a day for 2-3 days. This past weekend I found that I was fighting the corners quite a bit on the twisty trails and consistently had a ski tip up in the corners, ahs to release the throttle to get it to drop and found myself losing ground with the rest of the boys. Most of our trips are trails with some off trail mountain climbing. While I was able to keep up and lead on the trails, I was left behind off trail.

Someone in know owns a 05 Rage RS, 4-stroke, 3 cyl, in the same condition, same mileage as my RX1. He has always preferred an RX1 for it’s power and speed on the lake, and has now offered me to trade his Rage RS for my RX1, straight up.

I understand that the Rage has better handling capabilities and that the longer track will allow me more flexibility with off trail and mountain riding, but I am concerned that I will be sacrificing the power of the RX1.
Everything I have read indicates that from 0-70 mph, they are almost neck and neck, but from 70-100mph, the Rage’s 120hp 3 cyl, loses it’s power and cannot compete with the RX1.

Am I crazy for wanting to sacrifice the power for the better handling and longer track advantages?

All opinions are welcome as I need to decide pretty quick on what to do, or the Rage is up for sale….

Thanks

If your happy overall with your RX1, just stretch it to 136", and you'll be more flexable for off trail riding. ;)!

swap

..Think about it this way... How often you need handling? ..Quite a bit...How often do you need the top speed..Not very often...Is having a long track more comfortable YES...Does having the extra HP make the long 200 mile run any more comfortable ...bet it doesn't....I turned my 121 Apex to a 136...Quite a difference in the ride..If it was me and the sleds were equal in wear and tear I would swap...

i have an 05 rage and an 05 warrior(3 and 4 cylinder motors). rage feels a lot lighter and handles better than the warrior, but the motors feel completely different. you will miss the power of the rx1, but if you want handling, try the rage. the 3 cylinder in the rage seems "buzzy" and works harder for top speed, 4 cylinder has effortless power at all times, but you feel the weight at all times. twisty trails are a real workout compared to the rage

We have an'04 Warrior and an'07 Rage, They handle the same, both sleds need to have a 13mm swat bar installed and from there the only difference is the motor, The top speed on the Rage is 101 so far but it gets there quick, gas mileage is Awesome 22mpg and the motor is smooth. of course , there is no need to explain the rx power to you. Tough decission, the 136 is nice but so is the power!

If your riding in the mountains i would stretch your rx1 out.If it's sea level i would probaly make the trade.
You lose so muchg hp in elevation.
A apex power at 10,000ft is like phazer power at sea level.

Stretch the RX1. One straight away with your buddy blowing you away with your old sled will not sit well. If you want a great handling sled with power in between the two get a Doo XP 4 tec.

If you are falling behind now and you go to the Rage you will never catch up. Fix the handling with skies and shocks and stetch to 136.
