I,ve got hood repairs/plastic welding to do and need to know what type of plastic RX-1 hoods are made of. Looked in Yamaha brochures but didn,t find the info I need. Any tips would be helpful also. One plastic hinge is broke off and the other is cracked. Thanks Snodog

In the past, I have used epoxy and fiberglass netting/material. I have also used fiberglass resin versus epoxy. Epoxy dried quicker.

They also have the correct material for these repairs. It comes in a double tube and you have to have a double caulking type gun to mix it evenly and apply it in the correct proportion. A mixing tip is used on the gun. The gun cost about $75. I still have it on the shelf and I think some spare tips. The materials were about $40. For the life of me I can not remember the name of the stuff.

Consequently, you now know why I recommend expect and fiberglass.

However, repairing a hinge will be tricky. You may want to incorporate some stainless shim stock in the fix. This will add to the strength.

The molding lists 'PP + T20' on mine which is Polypropylene with 20% talc.

Thanks for the info everyone. This is the best source of information I,ve ever seen.Just reading the past postings really gives one just about all the info you could ask for. Thanks to those responsible for this site.SNODOG
