Note: this is not everything you'll need if your riding in the mountains.

Spare spark plug and plug wrench.

Spare drive belt

Phillips and regular screwdrivers

Pliers, preferably with sidecutters

S.A.E. and metric combination wrenches in a few standard sizes

Flashlight with good batteries

Tow rope - don't depend on someone else.

Quart of engine oil

Roll of electrical tape

Long piece of fuel line which can be used as a siphon hose.

Sharp pocket knife

Rag or towel to clean hands.

One should always carry a First Aid kit

Know how to make a fire and lean to.

Carry a cell phone, Gps, Compass and matches.

Carry a bag of trail mix and or peanuts.

Know which direction major highways or roads run before heading out in case of getting lost.

Know how to find the North star to find a major highway, road or trail in case you get lost at night.

Never go riding alone.

Dont panic! If you get lost stop and take a breather to gather your thoughts, and plan what you are going to do next. Just knowing what you are going to do will give you a better chance at surviving and keep you calm.

Never drink alcohol and sled. Save it for the evening at the lodge.

Always and I mean always do a slow run to check the terrain before opening your sled to do a top end speed run. Then you know what to expect at wide open throttle. Even on a lake where you went WOT before an ice heave could have developed since you were there last. I would not want to be thrown from my sled at 100 mph.
