I have a 2007 Attak gt I just got used with 6000 mile. The drive belt was a little thin....so I put a new belt on. I checked the center to center, and the offset. Both look very good. I put 1 more set of shim washers in the seconday clutch so that the belt deflection would be reduced, and the belt would ride a 1/16 or so above the secondary(it was about a 1/32 below). Everything looked good until I started the engine and ran it on the stand a few times. The secondary would not fully close when letting off the throttle...I had to help pull the belt up to the top of the secondary. I tried this about 10 times. So my question is, do I have a weak seconday spring, or is it because the belt is new, and needs a coule of miles on it. The old belt did not do this, but as I said, it was a bit narrow. Also, my primary spring, and secondary spring are both black, is that a stock color?

Have you tried taking the secondary apart and cleaning it real good? Could be the spring but it could also need a good cleaning. It should have a pretty good rate of twist so the secondary closes all the way allowing the belt to ride all the way to the top. I'm at work right now and can't remember the spring color but I would check there first.

on a stand the belt will never ever get to the top. To check deflection remove secondary & place belt in the clutch.

I recently installed Ulmers kit, and it never did close all the way. I've had the rear end raised though, now I feel better about it.
Turk, that is interesting...is that because there is not enough resistance against the secondary for it to slam shut?
I did put the belt around the closed secondary and it was about 1/32 below the pully. That is why I put another shim behind the three bolts, and now it is about 1/16 above the pully. I have always had polaris, and that is the way I set them....about 1/16 above the pully. Does this sound right for the yami?
