Solutions:? Track howl revisited.

Yamadoo, Byoffcr,

You guys ever do the Gunflint? I get out there once a year, usually last weekend in Feb. North Shore and Gunflint are great riding, the Expressway rocks. My Avatar is from the Trail Center bar last year. Always have a great time there.

Back to the howl.... No one is talking about snow conditions. I get something of a howl on ice. On snow it is gone. All in a few miles. So, I am not so quick to pin it just on the bearings (i.e. same bearings, same bearing wearpoint and still got intermittant niose)

Also, track tension seems like a good input to this problem. My selds gets a lot nosier when I have the track tight to spec. After I let it out and adjust just short of ratcheting, the track is noticably quieter. When it is looser than spec, it is probably not hitting the hyfax as hard. At the very least, the clips are hitting the hyfax at a different point, whch may be a quieter point???

I am sure wheels are an input to the noise also.

And yes, the bearings probably also are an input.

I also have noticed that the belt can howl, if it is not aligned correctly and the deflection set a bit too tight. Another thing I never messed with until I saw a few posts in here about easily adjustable defeletion components.

The discussion is great. The only bad part of this whole topic is; I never noticed these noises until I saw it discussed in here and someone thought it was a problem. Reality = Sleds are noise makers! Also, who is to say we are all talkin' about the same "howel" anyway???

Byoffcr and Maddog,

I get to gunflint 1 time a year and to vermillion about the same- I like both places and would like to ride there more need a good excuse.
:D
But being creatures of habit I frequently leave from the cabin north of Duluth near Resevoir rider trail. Usually get up early, make first tracks on the North shore, take the Tomohawk west to Yukon and south to either North shore back to home or Cut further west to Pequan (?sp) trail and home. 210 -255 depending on choices. ;)!

When I go early I see tons of wild life (deer, coyote , wolves and this year for the first time Moose) and no sleds & min bumps.
If I am forced to wait around and start late, the trails are crowded and get beat pretty quick. still fun but prefer early long ride and a late after noon nap than a short supper trip with the sane less than 100 mile a day riders

It would be good to tie up with you guys some time. If you see an Apex GT with a big 'lummox' on board as well as a huge smile on his face stop me.LOL
