Spent The Day On An RMK 900 166

I am not stupid when it comes to things like this, its more that I dont want to screw something up and pay for it.

So when you and your brother couldnt put on the skid plate or change the oil thats just cause you didnt want to screw anything up?

I did put on the skidplate moron. Ive never tried to change the oil, Ive just been told its not easy. You dont know anything about me so don't even try to make assumptions.

Isn't this the childish crap that is pushing Mr. Sled to want to give up on maintaining the site?

The RMK is an Awsome Sled But i would prefer a 159 over 166

I think your new RMK will be an Awesome Sled 2 stroke or not
I would lean towards a shorter track myself but the actuall 166 track is still a bit lighter than the 162 / 16 maverick
I may be Spending some Time riding one as well this winter
and as I cant Afford MODS I am Glad to here You Like the Stock power
Now All We need Is SNOW & Decent Weather on the coast
regardless what we ride

How much shorter would you lean snowmotion? I would think the longer the track the better the flotation for the deep stuff. I would like that 162/16 Maverick on my RX1 along with the clutching, dumped exhaust, and 05 skis, I think that would make it a contender to the 166 900. We finally got a little bit of snow last night, not enough to make up for anything, but every little bit helps.

In my opinion if you are replacing the track on a RX1 Mountain and doing any early season riding in Colorado, a 159x15 the minimum upgrade or you are wasting $$ on the upgrade.

Just another observation, the sled you are talking about building is pretty darn close to an Apex Mtn. You may want to get bids/prices on all of your mods before you start and then decide if it would be easier/quicker (riding season is short) to just get an 06, or a used 06 (those should be popping up in a few weeks).

The problem with getting a new one, tmk50, is that these have not even been close to been paid off. If they were already paid off, the upgrading option would be more practical. Seems the Maverick 162x16 is $600, plus the extensions. Thats not terrible, and I wouldnt imagine the labor would be too expensive, or one of my friends could help me out. What kind of time consumption does putting a new track on entail?

When we removed my track, punched it out, and installed extroverts it took about half a day on my RX1 (2-3 guys working on it).

tmk do you think that adding a 162x16 maverick on the stock 04 suspension is even going to help without the Holz or 05 suspension?

It will help floatation wise, but the stock skid does not transfer weight. At a minimum spend the $50 for the Moutain Performance Transfer Kit. The transfer kit will work better, but the Holz and 05 (and cat, etc.) skids are the next step up. I liked my sled with the transfer kit, and I rode one with a Holz and it did work better than my setup. (but not enough to make me run out and buy one)

Changing the track out is not too difficult, you can print off the parts diagrams off of Yamaha's website. That shows you how things come apart. Just keep things organized and in order. You will need a press to change drivers if you go to the Maverick track. If you don't have the press, you could do all the rest of the work at home, then take the driveshaft to the dealer to have them do the press work.

dont know about RPM's but on both our sleds our track speed is only about 15 in the deep stuff. I would hope the clutching would keep the track speed up
