turned it off after riding half hour went to start it and
The starter spun but didnt engage into the ring gear of the motor ......has anyone heard of this happening before ....its waiting for the weekend to be over to go into the shop..
it gave me error code 12 ...which sorta makes sense because the starter wasnt cranking the crank shaft,
more importantly is there a quick trail fix or a way to start these sleds with out the electric start ...
as im new to this forum this year and this is my first four stroke you guys might of already delt with this on other sleds.

It sounds like the starter definitely needs some work. I have not heard of this being a common issue.
To start it w/o a starter, if the sled is warm, you may stand a chance of starting it with a strap around the Primary. But you have to make sure the strap will release and not get caught. Once you have the strap on, roll the engine until it starts to compress. Then give her a healthy yank. It is a bit tricky. But it has been done many times. If you are strong or have help, you may even get it to start when the engine is fairly cold. If it is really cold, I might even consider adding s few drops of gas directly in the cylinders via the sparkplug holes.
Also, once it starts you may want to consider making sure your starter is not trying to still start the thing. It probably won’t be. But a given past problems with starters not disengaging, etc. a double check would not hurt.

I wish there was a better way than that ......ruined a perfect long weekend .....
i was riding with a vector this wek and on a cold morning our sleds were slow to start but his starter did was doing the same thing as described earlier but once in a while it would engage .....I know this is a similier motor so i thought maybe it is an issue we both have decent milage on our sleds maybe the starters a weak .

All Phazer starters have a design defect, causing them to fail. The starter appears to be the same, although the part #'s are different. Anyhow, Phazers can be starter with a rope.
