friday i threw my sled in the back of my truck and went upto oldforge.by the time i got there it was -28 f, and my sled wouldn't start.....not do to the battery,it cranked fine, however it was sputtering and backfired. i figured it was so dam cold i'd thaw it the garage, 2 hours later went back and still nothing, so i let it sit overnight in heated garage. next morning , same dam thing.... so i called big moose yamaha, they tell me i shouldn't have trailered it ot put it my truck with a half a tank or more of gas, which i thought was BS , they tell me to bring it in and they'll get it running, however it wouldn't be covered under warranty, because i guess my sled is old now with 150 miles on it
.. anyway i told them to give me four new plugs , and sure enough went back and put them in and it started right up..........it was very fustarting that this happened ,also had the chance to run on a plowed drag strip against 2 polaris 800's with heads/clutch,diff. pistons,etc.. , one took me by 3 sleds upto 115mph and i beat the other, ..... i am very happy with this sleds perfomance considering it's stock, the only thing that baffles me is that i raced another 05 rx1 and at 90 mph he walked by me like nothing, when i asked what he had done he said he broke it in right........whatever that means

i had the same exact problem on friday. Change your plugs and it will fire right up. How impressive is that battery though!!

All you newbie owners need to carry an extra set of plugs, cause if it happened once it probably will happen again, til the machine is broken in. It seems to be worse if you start a sled and don't let it fully warm up and shutting down. Once warmed up fully then they don't seem to do it. But shut it down like your moving it out of the way of another sled, and mine will do that too. Also be sure the sled is not running too rich. These sleds seem to come straight fromt the factory running rich, probably to keep them cooler. If it is rich, it fouls the plugs out and they are then useless. Tip off is the backfire and popping. Mine did this first time out and I believe it was because the battery was low after sitting around for 2 months waiting for snow to arrive. Another sled only had 6 miles on it when the plugs fouled out. Get some plugs and carry them with you and when she wont start change em.
Make real sure you push the plug wires on super hard cause that can cause troubles too if the plug wire isn't fully fastened. Feels like it til you lean all the way on them and they move down somemore.
Hope this helps

Seriously, Goldberg....... if it was running when you loaded it, and it wouldn't start when you unloaded it, you need to install fuel shut off's. The dealer was right, transporting the sled with the fuel level in the tank higher than the carbs is a recipe for big trouble.
Smokeless - if your sled is hard starting after sitting for a few weeks, blow in the fuel tank vent line or the filler hole until the tank 'presurizes'. Before I figured this out my sled took a LOT of cranking to start after sitting for extended preriods, after doing this it will always start in about 4 revolutions of the starter.

Lots of machines on here having troubles running and starting. If you missed the postings there are several things to watch out for.
A) Machine does not do a very good job of charging up a battery that is down. Keep it charged where possible and it will run better, and not act up.
B) Even if the battery is down and you jump it, the machine can act up and run badly....unlike a car. It needs to have that battery brought back to a very solid state. Get a optimizer from the dealer or elsewhere but use it. You will be rewarded with less troubles.
C) Low batteries cause poor starting, poor running, and malfunction of the electrics including speedo/tach, etc. I am pretty sure it is responsible for at least one machine fire as well.
D) Finally, keep a spare set of plugs with you. These machines seem to be hard on plugs at least early on. If she doesn't start and the battery is up, change out the plugs immediately. Be sure to force plug boots on fully when changing them out, or you can do harm to them also.

JD-..... I UNDERSTAND THAT CAN BE A PROBLEM, HOWEVER VERY UNLIKELY THE SLED WOULDN'T START AFTER SITTING ALL N IGHT, WHATEVER FUEL WAS IN THE CYLINDER WOULD HAVE DISSAPAITED. ALSO , IT ACTUALLY DIDN'T RUN GREAT WHEN I LOADED THE SLED UP BEFORE MY TRIP ....I THINK I DIDN'T LET IT WARM UP LONG ENOUGH AND BLEW APLUG THEN.......ANYWAY I REALIZE NOW TO CARRY EXTRA PLUGS FOR THIS SLED.......ALSO I TRAILERED IT HOME FINE AND STARTED RIGHT UP
