What are your thoughts/comments on the best environment to store my RX1 during the season - outdoors in an enclosed trailer or heated garage? I thought initially the answer was pretty obvious (heated garage) but I'm wondering what role condensation plays in shortening the mechanical life of the sled. Freezing, melting, freezing, melting...can this cycle of cold/warm/cold/warm start causing problems or am I better off just leaving it enclosed at outdoor temperature? I appreciate any feedback, thanks.

A heated garage/shop also has the advantage of defrosting/deicing the skid each night. Ice chunks in the skid can be quite disconcerting at times. Another benefit is it takes much less time to warm the sled up to operating temp.

(I'm just marking time.........no heated garage until we unload our OH "white elephant".)

I'm going with the "heated garage" answer for the same reason. Getting that skid thawed out, on occasion at least, is a big help.

Ever see the condensation that occurs when you run a couple warm sleds into a covered trailer. When you go to start them up they are covered in frost. Just moving them to an un-heated garage is better than keeping them inside a moist tin can.

Besides, you want to run them off the trailer and into the garage to look them over to ensure they are ready for the next trip, or find that tiny little leak in the coolant or chain-case, etc.

Also, it is harder on the trailer suspension, tires and frame to leave them on for an extended period. These days the sleds are heavy and the trailers are coming off the line lighter and lighter.

Terrific feedback, thanks for the responses! Did I mention I love this site!

I've always kept my sleds in a heated garage...30yrs plus and never had any problems what so ever, 1 thing you must watch for is to make sure its always full of GAS to avoid any condensation in your tank its so nice to have it thaw out to be able to go over all the suspension and everything else...and of course a nice coat of WAX! ;)!

Heated garage so it melts all snow and you can check it out after 2 days to make shure nothing is going wrong and it is the only way to grease properly and expell the water in susp. shafts , remember to regrease the wheels one a winter along with the two bearings on drive and jack shaft

I say heated garage as well. I keep ours in our heated shop whenever we are not riding. Never had a problem with condensation and have been able to fix many problems that have come up after a ride. I never would have been able to see a bearing out of an idler wheel if the sled never got thawed out!

Ice can really pile up on the idler wheels, especially the top wheels. Storing in a heated garage will remove the ice.

Another advantage of storing inside is that you can wipe down your sled before your next ride. This way you can remove all the salt and other debris on your sled.

And help to keep the relays from becoming to wet
