While attempting to inspect/adjust my EXUP cables, I stripped the bolts holding on the EXUP cover. Needless to say, they are still on and I need to remove them. Has anyone experienced this? Are these bolts 5MM or torx? I used a 5MM socket. Was thinking about heating up with torches and using vice grips on the bolt heads. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

They are 5mm. I have found that I always need to heat exhaust bolts before trying to remove them.
Usa a torch and get the backside where the thread is held cherry red and then try to loosen them with a good pair of Vise Grips.
Them little Allen headed 5mm bolts should be illegal to use on exhaust parts.

I drilled mine out after I rounded the Allen heads. I ended up replacing the them with bolts and nuts. Used stainless steel so they do not rust on there after having snow and what not kicked up at them.

I had the same problem, I used some small pieces of shim stock around the 5mm allen socket and hammered it in to the bolt heads to get it not to strip. Was a bastard of a job. Changed the bolts to a hex head style so it will be easier to deal with next time.

Reinstall bolts using a good Anti-Seize compound to save yourself some grief next time!!

Thank you. All good suggestions.

Use small vice grips and tap with a hammer. Worked for me. Then replace with Stainless steel flat head bolts and ant-seize.

Same problem here. I used my dremel and cut a channel across the bolt head. Then a big flat head screw driver.

I knew they were not going to come out so I put the torch to it and out they came.
