Did a ton of work to the RX1 which included new drive shaft and all associated bearings. I haven't had any time to test it out but I made some the other day. Everything was going great until I heard something in the chain case not right. I immidetly hit the breaks. I tried to go again and all I heard was grinding. When I spun the secondary by hand I could hear something not right in the chain case. Not a happy camper to say the least. It was dark and I didn't have a flashlight so I called a buddy and he pulled me home in a sled. At least he has a Nytro so I didn't have to hear all the crap about how a Yamaha got pulled home by a ....bla bla bla.... Anyway, when I got home I checked it out and with all the different maintenance stuff I was doing on it at the time, I some how forgot to tighten the jam nut on the chain tension bolt and the bolt backed out enough to give slack in the chain arrrggggg!!!! I pulled the cover off the chain case and inspected the gears and chain thoroughly and luckily because I noticed it right away there was no damage. Put it back together and all is good. Dodged a huge bullet there.
Have you already changed the gears and chain in the past? if you did or did not a can in each hand of brake cleaner blasting away inside or, completely remove and parts wash would be a great idea! put in some thin oil and spin track for a mile or two to get it fully cleaned, drain out then put in the gear oil of your choice .dont want if any , tiny metels going into new bearings you just put in from the grinding..

Dude that sucks, but it could've gone a lot worse. I almost did that same thing on the old Viper I had when I installed a reverse kit in it. I was doing more than one thing at a time and I put the cover on thinking I was all set in the case. Then I had a thought that I couldn't remember tightening the sprockets so I took the cover off and sure enough the bolts were only finger tight. Sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

It will be fine. I took the cover off and inspected really good and there was no sign of issues. Oil was completely free of any fileings. I even run a magnet through the oil and around the inside of the chain case to see if it picked anything up, and not a spec of fileings. I guess grinding was a misleading word to use, it was more like the sound when the chain skips a few cogs. It wasn't bad at all.

That's cool there's no damage. I imagine those parts would get expensive.
