Hi I am new to this site. Sorry in advance for the long post. I live in washington state and right now I ride an 04 Summit 600HO. I'm looking at getting a different sled and I was thinking about a summit 800 or a modded phazer. Would a turbo kit and a longer/wider track make it more what I need? Attack 20 tracks seem to be cheap used and they work well in my area. I never do any high speed stuff. Might hit 75 mph once a ride. I have never rode a four stroke but from what I can gather 80hp on a four stroke sled feels like a 2 stroke with more than 80 hp? Also is the 80 hp the phazer at the motor? Because if so it would actually be getting more power at the clutch due to gear reduction correct? Any input is great, thanks.

If you're going from a 600, a stock Phazer will definitely feel much weaker. As of yet, there are NO TURBOS available for Phazer, and only time will tell what will become available for it.
Gear reduction does NOT increase HP. In fact, it DECREASES HP. Theoretically, it remains exactly the same, in actuality, every part adds friction, which robs power. What increases with gear reduction is TORQUE, but this number is really redundant, since the entire transmission is designed to adjust the resistance torque to be equal to the engine torque. The purpose of the gear reduction is NOT to adjust power or torque, it is to improve the efficiency (and safety) of the clutches by limiting the speed they spin at. A 12000 rpm clutch is NOT a good idea.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I didn't mention that I will be getting a new sled at the beginning of next season. By then hopefully there will be a turbo or s/c kit out.

I'm certainly pretty far away from being an expert or even experienced in the steep and deep but I did have the recent pleasure to ride a Summit 800, 600 SDI and 550F all in one outing in the same powder bowl. The 800 and 600 were both 144" versions and the little 550 had a 136 with 1.75" lugs.
The 800 was obviously the best at climbing hills and the 600 was no slouch in that it could go most of the same places but with a little more effort. The 550 had to turn back on the steeper climbs but in my uneducated, inexperienced opinion I felt it was much easier to snake the little bugger through the trees and make much tighter turns than the two bigger units.
The big iron simply felt, dare I say it, heavy in comparison and I couldn't help but wonder if the new Phazer Mountain Light would have that same light "fun factor" type handling found on the little Summit. I think the HP will probably be an issue in pulling the steeps but like you say, there should be some goodies to improve that situation by next season.
Good luck in whatever you decide, it's all good fun.

Check the Turbo post in this section. MC Express is taking deposits for Phazer Turbos. 140 hp on pump premium. can you say WOOOHOOOO!!! As light as the Phazer felt when I rode it, it will be a rocket with 140 hp! I think Sledder Steve should get one and let me try it out ... before he Turtles it LOL. Sorry Steve, I HAD to do it.
