I just went to change the 11mm sway bar on my 03 RX1 to a 12mm bar and noticed that the links on my machine are exactly the same as the ones that came with the new bars. I was told that the originals wouldn't work (on the Pioneer website) but mine went on just fine. Is it likely that the previous owner upgraded the links and then put the 11mm bar back on for whatever reason or am I missing something here? Pictured below are all three sizes (11, 12, and 13mm) along with new and old links.

Also, do these links ever break in which case I'll keep them as spares, or should I sell them to a good home?

Definitely looks like the links were upgraded to the longer ones. I would install a 13mm sway bar with the new links. The inner splines are quite fine on the links a could get stripped or damaged. However, have not heard of anyone breaking these links, so sell or add to your spare parts.

Those links are the right ones, I've never herd of any breaking I'd seel them, all whats missing are the links from "A" arms to sway bar arms...

I kind of went through the same thing. I just bought an 03 a couple of weeks ago and the guy told me that the links were updated by the dealer. He owned it since new. When I measured things the links matched the Pioneer spec but the original bar was still in it. When I ordered the kit I only wanted the 13mm bar but the only way I could get the bushings was to by the links. Kind of sucks but you need the bushings in the 03 to fit the thicker bar. I do not know if I could have bought the 04 or 05 bushings from Yammy but I did not try.

Long story short this proves there were updates of the longer links back in the day. The original ones were 50mm and these longer ones are 75mm center to center on the holes.

Hope this helps.

The bushings and links both come in bags with Yamaha part numbers but I'm not sure how the prices line up with aftermarket sellers. You should be able to buy them separate though. Live and learn- all you guys with an 03 check the links before you upgrade them!

Yep just verified I can buy just the bushings from a local supplier:

8FG-2386G-00-00 BUSH, STABILIZER FRO $1.87

I have tried to put a stop to the kit that included both links and bushings since it was $85 CAD. I will see what happens.

This is ALL the swaybar stuff available OEM:

03: 10mm bar + short links + thick bushings
03 upgrade: long links
04+: 11mm bar + long links + thin bushings

Note regarding the 03 upgrade links and the 04 links... they are the same length, but they are NOT the same links and are NOT COMPATILBE. The bar end is THINNER on the 03 10mm bar than on 04+, and the 03 upgrade links are specifically matched to the 03 10mm bar -- they will NOT work on any bar that was not specifically for an 03.

Aftermarket provided 11, 12, and 13mm bars with 03 bar ends. These are compatible with the 03 short OR long links, but not with 04+ bars. Along with these 11, 12, and 13mm 03 bars, these required thin bushings (aftermarket).

Aftermarket provides 12 and 13mm bars with 04+ ends. These are compatible with all 04+ OEM ends and bushings, and not with ANY 03 parts.

@YammyRX1: The previous owner of your sled swapped out ALL parts for 04+ OEM version. Bar, links, and bushings.
