I have a 2000 SX600 and was thinking about buying a 2014 SRViper XTX SE and was wondering how the two compare with ride and handling. I ride mostly groomed and ungroomed trails. I am mostly concerned how they handle on hard packed trails. Thanks for your opinions.

Once you ride the viper you wont want to ever ride the Sx600 again.

The viper is in a different universe than the old style sleds. Really, any new sled will be way better than your sx. The rider forward chasis style that everyone has now makes any of the old ones feel like the 1980s.
I loved my 14 so much I bought a 15 they are a but if work to dial in to your liking but once there it will handle all you can give it
By the way I had a 1998 SX 700 and a 99 Vmax deluxe 600 and gave both of them away. I could not stomach charging anyone for them ( the vmax was not bad ride but still)

I see nobody has yet really addressed your concerns.......well I can speak from a little experience.......had an 02 Viper ER and currently have a '14 Viper XTX........1st off if you buy a box stock sled look into different skis......stock ones blow, and that's being kind.........seating position is a LOT higher than what you're used to.......easier on back & knees but does take a few rides to be completely comfortable.......the XTX is a 141" track compared to your SX which is a 121", I assume.......big difference in effort turning, especially off trail.......not unwieldy but just more effort.......where the SX would corner pretty much like a slot car you have to perfect your own method of optimal turning ability and effort....... engine performance is radically different.......torque from the 4 stroker makes it night & day from corner to corner as opposed to what you have now.......and on hard take offs since the XTX is an uncoupled suspension it'll have a tendency to point the nose skyward........
That's all for now.....if I think of other points I'll re-visit

I own both a 600 SXR and a Viper. Like your SX, the SXR is like a slot car on the trails. The Viper however, is a whole other animal. Seating position much improved, and no comparison between suspensions. Viper engine also can't be compared to the 2 stroke. If or when my starter ever fails, I'll ride my SXR, otherwise, it will be a garage ornament and only ridden when my daughter is home from college!

Ended up buying a new 2014 Viper LTX. Rode it last weekend in Northern Wisconsin. Put on 425 miles and rides great. Only problem is the windshield is to short and got cold. Bought a new windshield on the way home. Probably will sell the SXR 600 because I won't drive it any more.Once you ride the viper you wont want to ever ride the Sx600 again.
