I seen on other posts that the T.O.R.S code 84 going off can be caused of a bad drive shaft bearing,
Can anyone explain how those two are connected,
Two weeks ago code 84 came up about 8 times in one day, when I would come to a stop and than give it throttle again, I wait a few seconds and it goes away, than last week never came on, I check everything over and all bearings look good,
I repacked the two on the clutch side just to be sure,
I going on a 8 day ride up in northern Ontario next week and just want to see what you guys think why code 84 comes on,
I do have the NCI throttle adapter and there might be a an extra mil of free play than spectifacation,
Would that cause code 84 to come?

Had code 84 come on my Attak once when I had my Thumbdrive installed. Loosened up the throttle cable a little bit more and it never came back.

It's because the speedo sensor is getting too close or too far from its pickup gear on the end of the shaft of driveshaft, sensor gets a bad signal (or none at all) & ECM knows something is amiss & cuts the throttle off.

This will also happen if the speedo sensor is dying or bad.

I had this happen on my '06 RS Nytro. Speedo sensor crapped out & TORS went off. Thankfully I was close to home. As long as I didn't let off to idle, I could go about 20 MPH before TORS shut me down. I had to shut off & restart at road crossings to get going off idle. I bypassed the TORS until I got a new speed sensor (actually never hooked it back up either & have bypassed it on all my Yamahas)

I had a throttle gizmo on mine that was interfering with the clearance factor. I had a long loose bolt going thru it. I just removed it and put the stock pin with c-clip and it hasn't happened since. You should have about 1/8 inch of play between the thumb throttle stop and when the cable engages. Mine was doing the exact same thing as yours. TORS 84 would come on, I would stop then hit the throttle and it would clear. Happened several times a ride.

Brand new sled no miles when mine came on. It was a defective speedo sensor. All good 1,500 miles later.

had it happen on a 2011 SE with 400 miles on it. speed sensor covered under yes warranty. no problem since. it has come on once or twice with my XTX but I have not changed the sensor with that sled yet. I do carry a new one in the trailer. its about $70 dollars and easy to change. it can save a long weekend riding trip if you have a spare.

I just took it off. I had bad carpel tunnel and my thumb would go numb. Since I had surgery for it I haven't used it. It was great for when I did.
