Dukester,
Glad to hear you are healed up.
Here's a quick proposed destination list in sequence for you to consider.... just to get the ball rolling.
Note: All destinations in the "Main Plan" are in Ontario.
 MAIN PLAN - Atikokan Loop
Day 1 - Meet me and another guide in Fort Frances
(overnight at Red Dog Inn)
Day 2 - TRAIL D (120 miles)
head north to Kenora
(meet up with Lakecr - when he heals up, and HlmRX1)
TRAIL A (80 miles)
then east to Vermillion Bay
TRAIL A118 (60 miles)
continue north to Ear Falls
possibly divert to Red Lake and return to Ear Falls
(overnight at the Trillium Motel)
Day 3 - CROSS-COUNTRY (80miles - long miles)
from Ear Falls head east to Sioux Lookout via Lac Suel
TRAIL A116 (80miles)
then southwest to Ignace
(overnight at the Northwoods Inn)
Day 4 - TRAILs D114A (80miles) and D (120miles)
continue southwest to Atikokan
return westward to Fort Frances (Red Dog Inn)
This is my first preferance as the cross country leg can easily be
eliminated and has many well known alternate routes with access to
civilization. (Read: safety with adventure.)
 OPTION A - Shabaqua Loop
To lengthen the trip (eastward) we could incorporate Upsala, Shabaqua and/or Thunder Bay between Ignace and Atikokan.
 OPTION B - Bird Lake Loop
The trip could be shifted west into Manitoba following a different route from Kenora to Falcon Lake, MB to Seven Sisters and finally to Bird Lake. From there a somewhat brutal cross country leg back into Ontario to Red Lake is an option. The problem with that leg is not having the luxury of many alternate routes. This wouldn't normally be a problem except the slush conditions this year are unprecedented due to the abundance of snow. It's 125 miles of ungroomed, unmarked, unserviced territory. We would have to pack fuel
as well. (Read: riskier)
Dates, etc...:
Your 'guides' are - myself and another rider. He doesnt ride Yamaha, but
he knows the lac suel cross-country leg well and is dependable, so we won't hold it against him. The later the better for me (late March). Also, it would have to occur over a weekend so that I can minimize the away time during the week. Four days is better than five (so... F-S-S-M). If we opt for Option A then we would just have to rack up the miles faster.
Cheers,
kmer

I'd love to make another ride so I'll keep my status as "P" for the moment. Health is going to be the issue. I was in the hospital again this morning for some follow-up and things weren't all as they should be... I have a feeling that I'm going to need an operation. Will know for sure by Friday.
Sounds like this could be a killer ride!

I myself live at the wrong end of the loop ! But thats ok i couldnt make it anyways
not this year anyway but next year Is differant
Guys consider running from Ignace thru to Atikokan via White Otter Castle Its something to see
. I myself have done this loop via Thunder Bay , Atikokan, Ignace, Upsula , Thunder Bay and it took us a long weekend. I have also done a Thunder Bay ,Fort Frances n back run that was overnight. I think that you plans are excucutable but quite long in the period of time you wish to do it in so be carefull not to override and get tired. Also the trail from Shabaqua to Thunder bay is not groomed or very well signed this year. If I can be of assistancein anyway with input let me know. Next year I will definatly want to link up with you guys at some point to do at least part of the loop as I am wayyyyyy over here. Oh and if you run the Shabaqua route I know a huge shortcut Across Shebandewan lake but there is a trick so let me know so I can help ya out.

Uh, I gotta check with the Boss first. We are suppose to fly back towards the beginning of March for a final ride. I know I can't do two trips in March. The trip sounds interesting, so let me see what I can do. My only conern at this point is booking such a late trip and then not having snowcover. The airlines won't refund your money in those circumstances.
Sounds like it could be a hazard to our health riding with lakecr and dukester! lol. Anyway count me as p for now, I'll book holidays for those days seeing as how I'm more than likely not going south now. I'm a little concerned about snow cover like suisse sledder though, that late in the season. If we go ahead with this, maybe we can make the plans but just don't book anything until the last minute. By the way, how much is a 4 day Ontario snow pass?

Kmer: Consider Big Bill, Al, George, Jim and Bud all from the Manitoba ride as probable.
Mikey: If it would help you come along, we could meet you closer to your place and ride together to Fort Fransis to start the ride with Kmer.

Its not a distance thing as I've done as many as 300 miles in a day its more of a cash thing for now. I am very involved in ice racing cars on lake superior right now and have very little time as well. Next year things will change tho. Thank you very much for the offer and I am not sure you would like to add another full day of riding to your trip seeing how it is aprox 200 miles from Thunder Bay to Fort Frances.
Count me in for next years ride but as I have stated if you guys need any help with logistics let me know. Mabee next year you guys would like to ride to Thunder Bay and we could ride east to nipigon and on to Beardmore,Geraldton,Longlac as it is the most breathtaking scenery east of the rockies.

Mikey,
White Otter is a great idea! We usually get out there once a year during the Ignace Poker Derby. You're right... it really IS something to see.
Certainly appreciate your offers. The Shebandewan Lake part you mentioned is where I was really concerned the most. Good to know.

Sketr has a trip over the 13th, not sure about the 20th. That weekend (using your same date logic) might ensure we still have some snow to ride on. Sketr, is this date a problem?
