Does anyone know of a kit that is sold to install a temp guage on the RX1. I just installed the front rad mod and I dont want to run the cooling fan if I don't need to. I knoe on the total yamaha website theres the "how to" on instaling one, but no leads as to were to get one. Canadian Tire doesn't sell a in line T-stat so I dont really know where to go from here. :o|

Not aware of a yamaha kit. But aftermarket kits that are genaric, and will work. Ulmer has one, Trail tech has one. Mine is from trail tech.....lower left of tach area.

Alright Perfect, now riddle me this, what size rad hose? and where under the hood did you install it? I'm guessing where ever it fits? Does the trail Tech light up at night?

Trail tech does NOT light up. Ulmers DOES light up . 1 inch rad hose here....

I got the idea from the TY "how-to" section. I got an autometer temp gauge and the inline t-fitting both on ebay. $40-45 for the gauge and around $10 for the t-fitting.

Alright, I was typing on a limited time table this morning. The ulmers gauge is made by datona digital, and is very nice unit, but is larger than the trail tech unit, and I have not found many good options for mounting it, except to cut the handlebar pad, and to mount inside it(this is a nice way). The trailtech unit is smaller, but has no backlight, and runs on a 5 year battery. There are about 5 ways to mount this unit with handlebar mounts, velcro, direct bolt-on, etc. I have also seen a unit in dennis kirk from KOSSO(spelling?). I know nothing about this. Also, as others have stated, many choices in analog, like autometer, and etc. If you can figure out a mounting solution that you like, I think ulmers would be my choice, but for limited space, good mounting choices, and cheap, then I choose trail tech. Thanks for all the Help fellas, this is unreal. One last question, what operating temp for the RX-1. I want to go with a Autometer gauge, and i dont want to get one that reads to high or low. Again THANKS!! :rocks:

I installed a temp gauge this summer. I bought a Phaze gauge off ebay for $17. Then bought a (grey) plastic 1" tee at the hardware store. Total investement $21. It has not been trail tested yet but it seems to work ok in the garage. I figured the overflow tank is plastic so the tee shouldn't get too hot. The phaze gauge is also illuminated.

How did you ground the sender?

I bought a gauge at Princess Auto and an installation kit at Royal Distributing- works great and looks almost factory. Gauge has five different LED colors with the push of a button too.

I grounded the sensor by soldering a wire to the reducer bushing I used in the tee. I used a brass bushing.
