The hole in the tunnel?

It is designed to cool the exhaust and help the engine perform its best. It allows them to position the exhaust in a place that ultimately saves probably just a minimal amount of weight as well. It does ice up in that area I've heard, but guess we gotta wait and see if it creates a mess or not. As long as it doesn't piss water that turns to ice down in the running boards or create a whirlwind of powder in your face....we'll see.

At Hay Days they had a Yamaha accessory that fills in the sides of the tunnel it looks cool and the Rep said that it still allows snow to cool the exhaust for optimal HP.

I cant say for sure, but I dont think you will see running board icing from this.
IMO, the snow will hit the exhaust and drip back onto the track and probably get flinged onto the heat exchanger.
As I said, I cant say with any kind of certainty, but thats my hunch.
I will let you all know when I finally get to put some miles on my Phazer this winter. Im planning on doing updates at various points over the course of the winter to give people who are interested in the Phazer but somewhat skeptical and a fair and unbiased report with lots of pics.

I saw that accessory at Haydays also. I asked the Yamaha rep at Haydays about it. He said it was for looks only, and that he had put lots of miles on the prototypes & that slop/spray, whatever thru the hole -- wasn't a problem.

i dont think yamaha would have left it open like that if slop/ice/snow coming through would have been an issue during testing but i could be way off...yamaha usually does their homework...

I look forward to hearing about those updates as this spring I plan to snowcheck one....

guys,
I suspect there will be no water dripping. Why? this is not a warm surface that will melt the snow ie like the running boards, this is a hot surface that will vaporize the snow/water to steam. The steam will then crystalize on extremely cold surfaces like thick frost. I saw this some on the exhaust of my Apex when very cold, frost but no water.

My two cents
Yamadoo
