hello group i m planning to replaced my venture gt(c/w mtx ski and crossover track) with a nytro because i dont really ride two up anymore and I discovered that i ride about 50/50 on trail off trail so here the point actually yamaha canada has really good deal on 2012/13 nytro mtx and I really like the look of the mtx over xtx. I know that a xtx 1.75 could be the best sled for flat land riding but a mtx with rebate are about 1200$ cheaper than a xtx 1.75. so i have almost every clutching and gearing parts in stock to converted it for flat land riding i m also used to ride with ice scratcer it s not gonna be an issue but one question remaining the damn maverick track everybody seem to dislike it but after a quick look at the camoplast catalog i cannot swap it to any other tracks i mean with shorter lugs.
the only option is to cut the track down to 1.75 inch. do you guys think that Im gonna hated the mtx on trail do Im better to pay more for the backcountry version
Im confuse right now :o|

153 mtx

plan on riding one here in nd have never rode one upgrading from 700mm

I forgot to mentioned that we also got the fox float shocks all arround they are probably better then the hpg shocks of the xtx and the handlebar riser who is taller on the mtx. ;)!

I do not think you will hate the MTX on the trail. Just keep in mind its a mountain sled and has its limitations. I have trail ridden mine quite a bit when the wife wants to go. The Maverick will be fine on the trail it sucks in the deep POW. You can always swap out the track later when all the lugs have folded over.

If you like railing high speed sweepers you might be disappointed, but beyond that, mine has been better than I thought in the flatlands. The Maverick does suck though.

I cut my Maverick track down to 1.75 inch. Certainly gave me a better bite on the trails. I also installed the excell (larger) wheels that I believe help prevent hyfax wear.

In my opinion, it will depend on who you ride with on the trails and what they are riding. If you are riding with aggressive riders on 800 cc two strokes with shorter tracks you may be disappointed. That said, the MTX did perform better on the trails than I had expected.

I have an 09 MTX , stock track, running slide kicks ice scratchers (need to order a new pair this year though -.-) with a hindle exhaust, the rest is stock and I don't mind it at all on the trail, It is a pain to corner compared to a smaller track but whatever, I like playing in the powder.. vs any short track you might be disappointed, but it's not unbearable , just wish it would lift it's skis off the ground like an RTX/XTX can..

Sounds like your clutching is off or maybe drop a tooth on your top gear. I can pull the front end off the ground pretty much at will. :moon:

i ride a 153 mtx mostly in the flats of ND and have no issues, plus it works great when i go to the mountains.
