realistically I see where there can be 25lbs shaved off the weight fairly easy and inexpensively. Now my thoughts are how much H.p. can be gained from an exhaust and other bolt on upgrades ? I assume super chargering it would put it in the 120h.p. range maybe a bit more, with an exhaust and other possible engine upgrades....(thoughts on this) is 135 dependable horse achieveable in a reasonable price , say $4,000.00 boosted, exhaust, air etc. With a set of rail extensions and a 156" track it would be a MONSTER! What are your thoughts on the future upgrades that will be offered..........

I wouldn't expect much at all out of an exhaust and efi retune, especially on a 2 cylinder. Look at how little modern streetbikes actually benefit from exhaust systems these days [especially in light of what a full Ti system will set you back]. To get the 80 claimed HP out of a 500cc twin, Yamaha couldn't leave too much on the table and I'm quite confident they built a very good stock exhaust for it.
Huffer of some sorts is the only way to get any serious HP gains from it. Sure would be nice if you could do a SC setup for like $2000 or less.
Why do they always put the el cheapo shocks on the mountain sleds? I'd say the nice remote res shocks on the standard 121FX will be worth upgrading to.
Assuming you do get the HP up over 130, I'd say the next move would be a skid setback to get rid of that nasty approach angle, some extensions, and a 153-156" track.
Man, the possibilities are there, just wish Yamaha would have finished the job for us! I'm looking for a new sled, had my heart set on a new Summit-8, this thing has me thinking a bit, but dang, with only 80 to start with.....maybe wait until '08???

The RX-1 1000cc can be run safely on pump gas at 195 hp thats a 40% increase using 140 hp to start with. Assuming you can get the same 40% safely out of this engine you are looking at 112 hp which would be lots for this lighter sled.

112 would be better, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it would be 'lots' for a basically 500lb. sled.....
Just thinking out loud here, maybe a 540 or 550cc piston kit with low to moderate compression, good full radius valve job, degreed stock cams [don't want any more rpm], port cleanup, free flowing muffler, and a supercharger....well you might just end up over 130hp. Boss seat, some Fox floats, ti torsion springs, lexan hood and body panels, and MOD skis you could have one trimmed down snowcat.
The question is, can you justify the kind of coin it would take to get there?????

112HP true HP at elevation would be a ton of HP at 6,000 feet an RMK 900 dynos at like 106 HP, If you can boost the Phazer to over 110HP at elevation it would be a giant killer against anything but another turbo. Maybe not a highmark but super fun for playing..

Short of changing the dimensions around the front suspension, there is no room for a super charger. A rear mount turbo is about the only way to go. The real question is if this were any other manufacturer's entry level sled, (i.e. trail RMK, Summit 500, MC 500) would you go to the trouble to really increase performance? I am sure there is lots of potential for this sled but are we really missing the point? There are other hotter, lightweight sleds in the works at Yamaha. Perhaps we should not expect too much from the phazer.

Actually I am expecting more from the Phazer, this is the type of sled those that LOVE 2-strokes have been desiring to see, but with a truly big HP lump under the hood and a price tag not much more than the Phazer has. Yes, I want my cake and I want to eat it too!!!!
I like what they have done, but can't help but wonder 'What If...' Think what Yamaha could have done had they dropped a legit 120 non-boosted hp into this EXACT sled and kept the price under $8000.....
Anyway, I'll give 'em credit, they've got my wheels spinning a bit here. Proven, light, powerful Summit-8 or take a chance that I can live with 80hp until real mod options are available mid/late next year....

Ride your summit until the phazers are on the used market then throw on the mods. As long as everyone keeps the cry up for lighter, more powerful sleds 4 stroke sleds, the manufacturers will have to take heed sooner or later.

It sure looks like the Vector 120 hp. 3 cylinder engine could be shoehorned between the delta frame members.
How much weight would that add going from 80 to 120 hp?
I haven't been up close and personal with the Phazer yet to be able to see if it really fit but the pictures make it look like it's possible.
