Throttle bodies boots popping off....

A

Anonymous

When we got the bender turbo kit for the Apex back in february, we got this problem where the entire intake would pop off on hi-boost at the cylinder head's intake port rubber boot connection...

We quickly found out the stock clamps that retains the intake boots to intake ports wasn't up to the job at anything over 11-12psi boost.

So we drilled a hole in the intake port's lip and bolted each boots in place plus the stock clamps.

Now we don't pop em off anymore...

Anyone else had this problem with their blown apex?

Maybe its because the bender kit doesnt come with a blowoff valve? but I don't think so because then it would be the intercooler to throttle bodies that would pop off right??

Do a search......lots of info.

We are up to 17++ now. One guy I know claims he has hit 23 on an alpine kit.........and yup have to be creative to keep the cooler on at the upper levels.

It was not the cooler... but really the boots at the cylinder head directly!!

Anyway, that was just to know if there were other guys having the same issues!

And that is to say turbo kits are not an 'average joe' install job haha!!

LaLaLa

hahaha!!! you just made my friday night hahaha!!!

But... Monster7 did the install with me in fact :drink:

clean with brake clean and spray with hair spray or such.Helps em hold a little better. The amount you get to clamp on with the head on the apex is so small its hard no matter what.

Was at the BDSO, saw 2 guys with boondocker kits, had a ratchet strap holding the intercooler down. Spend all that money and have a $5 strap hold it down, real "swoot".

I dont think that is a good solution...

we litterally bolted the boots to the head, since then no more popping off

epoxied the boots to the carbs. no need to every take them back off anyways. never had a problem again

I had the same problem with my kit. Found out it was the angle of the intercooler. MCX has since changed the intercooler design but I still have that problem in extreme cold weather. To solve this I just strap everything together with zip ties for the trip.

mulot30th post some pics of your set up if you can.

Dont have pics of my intake boots for now but...

Since I blown the head gasket this winter I got a threaded hole machined into each intake port and a matching hole in each intake boot so I can bolt each of them to the head. Since then, never popped the intake again.

I tried the strap around the head to each side of the intercooler, but this way when I lifted the head on bad gas, it seems the head was kinda pushed to the rear as we could see from the bent dowel pins... :o|

Y buy a bender

pos system took 3 off this winter......

bolts in the boots is the only viable solution for the bender kit as I see it!

I did a few other things but the best one is that bolt thingy!
