just bought a 09 mtx with the timbersled ice age rail combo in a 162" length. what are pros cons to running this skid in a cross country application? i could keep the skid and buy shorter rails in a 144 which i want. i do approx 2000-3000 kms trail riding, ditches, jumping and a bit of powder..how will this work compared to the stock xtx skid? what about wieght transfer for drag racing? talked to timbersled and they dont really recommend it

Unfortunately it is not as simple as a rail swap. The XTX has a shorter suspension arm mounting distance compared to the 153/162" MTX. The difference is about 3 inches if I remember correctly. The XTX also has a different tunnel taper compared to the 09 MTX. Which means if you decide to use XTX drop brackets, they still will have to be modified to fit the MTX tunnel. Probably would be easier to build your own drop brackets instead.
If you just wanted to do a simple rail swap, it would be easier to go with a 153". The difference in length between the 153" and 162" is behind where the rear arm attaches. They use the same drop brackets and are located in the same position ;)!
Here is a link to a drawing of the tunnel layout for a XTX http://fourstrokesolutionsllc.webs.com/ ... =112128969
