I have a 05 mtn vector with wiseco 9.5:1 turbo pistons. no head shim. stock timing. running at3-6000 feet. planning on running over 15 lbs of boost. (around 20 lbs) will be running trick 114 fuel. is it recommended to retard the timing. has anyone ever sucessfully removed the stator cover without pulling the engine?? any help appreciated. if anyone is very familiar with the vectors and would be kind enough to call that would be fantastic. or pm ok too. ryan 206 909 9025/

No need to retard timing if you have 114 motor octane at 20 lbs with low comp pistons. Plenty safe! Mike Knapp#17

thanks for the reply Mike! what if I wanted to run a 50/50 race fuel (114) and pump gas (92) blend- then is it necessary to retard timing?

Also, does anyone make any type of detonation sensor for the yamaha four strokes??

were the guys running stock timing at 16lbs or was it retarded? Thanks for the info. I talked to parker motorsports and the knock sensor is made for the 4cyls. he said it might work, but the rpm and harmonics are different on the 3cyls. It was developed on the apex.

Vector cam sprockets are slotted with lobe centers set apart and 4 degree retard timing key running on 14 lbs boost. Seems very responsive and running 14 lbs boost the Vector will stay with an RX-1 running 12 lbs boost.

I run straight av gas 100LL, it’s cheap here and it you don’t have to question the quality of it. On my Vector I have the Powderlites head spacer that brings the compression down to around 8.4.

On a warm day(spring time) At 16# boost @ 3500 feet. I have noticed some very fine speckling on my spark plug porcelain. A timing change would fix this for me, To back off your timing you can use a offset key on your flywheel, by the time you get dug into your motor that far it is almost ready to pull out of the sled. Ideally you want your maximum cylinder pressure to happen at 15 degrees ATDC, If it happens sooner you are loosing power and getting closer to detonating your motor. If you are going to mix 114 at high boost at the very least keep an eye on your plugs.

THANKS BOYKO! I WENT AHEAD AND RETARDED THE TIMING ON MY VECTOR. SLOTTED AND MOVED THE PICKUP COIL TO RETARD ON MY SLED. ACTUALLY DID NOT KNOW ANYONE MADE TIMING KEYS FOR THEM. YES THE MOTOR HAS TO BE PULLED TO DO THIS, IT WAS A LOT OF WORK.....BUT BETTER THAN A NEW MOTOR AFTER IT DETONATES AND BLOWS UP.

I TOO HAVE A 05 WITH 159X16. YOU RIDE AT 3500....DO YOU LIVE IN WA?
