Track Clearance After New Track Install

Just put a Camoplast Back Country track and Avid extroverts on my 09 xtx yesterday.

Went pretty smooth I think...

The track does not appear to hit anything.

Weird thing is that on the left side the tall lugs all have dimples where they meet the track, looks like pieces are missing. They are so smooth I just think it is something from when the track was made.

My question is about side to side clearance.

After running the track it looks like I have 1/2" of clearance on the left side and about 3/4" on the right. Is this close enough?

Sounds like your drivers might not be pressed on properly. You should have close to even space on both sides although I don't know if 1/8" difference is worth trying to fix?

Hey, I just bought the Back country for my XTX, should have it tomorrow. Do i need to install new extroverts??? How difficult was the install?? I was considering sending it to the dealer, not sure if I had the patience.
 
I have the 1.75" backcountry on my 09' XTX - even spaces measured from both sides of the track (a little less than 3/4") using stock drivers.

Works just fine with now over 1,500 miles on the setup.

Went pretty good, followed the tutorials from this forum. Without these I may have not been able to do it.

Had issues with the extrovert placement at first, my dealer pressed them on for me and put them in the same location as the inside stock drivers. I had to take them back since they neeed to be moved 5" to line up with the holes! Guy at the counter said "We did not have your track or sled" I and the other guy behind the counter started to laugh since the way they put them on might fit a kitty cat.

Having 2 guys really helped, especially when we put the skid back in. I also added the hygear torsion spacers. I skid went in easier than it came out, this was a surprise. We put the front two bolts in and to get the back ones to line up we used 2 tie down straps. We hooked them around the the tow bars that the rear shock mounts to. Barely had to tighten them and the holes lined up pretty nicely.

Read through the tutorials a few times before you start and maybe take a few pics as you take it appart.
 
Thanks everyone for the replies.

I went out to look closer at it and it looks like the drivers are pretty close to where they should be but the front of the track is riding a little to the left. So if the track rode center on the drivers it would be pretty even on both sides.

Ran it again and I could see the track moving around a little. This time when I stopped it the whole track was a little to the left. Maybe I just need to adjust the tension on the track???
 
Did you have to cut the tunnel protectors off in order for the 1.75" track to clear?

I was thinking about getting a 1.75" backcountry, but if I have to cut off tunnel protectors and risk putting a hole in my heat exchanger I think I'll pass.

Yes, you do have to cut them off.
 
If you used a 8 tooth driver, would it help the track clear enough that you wouldn't have to take the protectors? I don't know, was just wondering?
 
cutting out the exchanger protectors is easy if you have a dremel. Get a heavy duty cutoff wheel and take your time. The regular dremel wheels burn up real fast.
You dont need extroverts on an xtx. I dont know why everyone insists it does. The xtx does not ratchet unless the track is extremely loose. You cant run these big tracks loose either or you'll kill your top speed even more!! loose end of yamaha spec is just fine.

also a good trick to install the rear skid is too unhook the torsion springs by rotating the plastic holder on the idler wheel forward and lifting the spring over the wheel so it hangs. Skid goes in easy and bolts line up perfect. After that put torsions back on blocks and away you go.

Anyone know if a 15x144x2.0 NOTCHED (part # 9866) Challenger track will fit in the xtx without cutting out the protectors? It says specified for Polaris and Arctic Cat protectors, but I was thinking maybe this would work on the nytro too? Either way I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the backcountry, but I was just wondering.

No because the notched sections are only nothched about a 1/4" so your still a 1.75 at the protectors

Oh ok thanks. Guess I'll just have to break down and cut those protectors out. Going to be putting in a trail tank at the same time since I'll be riding with a 08 summit 800R. Can't be running out of gas before him. Plus he'll never know I have an over-sized tank! haha
 
Does both the heat exchanger protectors, and the tunnell protectors need to come out?

Or is it enough to remove the protectors on the heat exchanger?

I am also going for a 1.75" backcountry track, on stock drivers.
