Just curious what everyone uses to help navigate when your out riding in new or unfamiliar areas.

What's your favorite GPS device and why?

Also, is there anything out there with trail map overlay capability?.. I've used the Polaris trail map app for Mn.. but cell phone on the trail can be a little finicky at times.

Other gadgets you recommend?

Thoughts?

This yr GPS on my phone Last year Garmin before that sometimes didn't make it out till the next day!

My phone works really well too.

Just got a Garmin Montana, and the Michigan trail maps from the MSA. Should meet my needs.

Also picked up a contour camera a few months back. Think they went out of business.

Tried downloading their software for editing movies and the site was shut down. Also tried contacting heir support site which is also down. Everyone I know love's the contour product, sad to see them go under. Checked the web and many sites discussing the Contour shutdown, I guess there is always a chance the company could be bought by someone.

My buddy's son has all the software for his contour, when he's up for Christmas vacation I'll see if I can get a copy of his software.

Brand new Garmin Montana 600 for this year. Previous GPS is a Garmin 60CSx. Run them on both the sled and quad.

Why the switch from Garmin to cell phone?
I will be using GPS Kit on my phone this year in lieu of my Garmin for numerous reasons. First importing exporting and sharing info will be much easier. Having the keyboard will be much better than the Garmin interface. Multiple maps to choose from - offline downloaded for the times when out of range. Better screen and visuals. Last year in Quebec I used imotoniege app more than my GARMIN with better results to locate mysolf and choose turns and directions.

It is just a matter of how much technology do I need to carry with me. If I could make a call from my GPS I would use it. I Know the areas I ride like the back of my hand.... wait is that my hand?

But I use it only when I am on the logging roads west of Twin Lakes over to Superior and finding my way down to Ontonogan it gets hairy back in there when there is no sun or at night. You would be surprised how many of the logging roads are on the standard maps.
