I adjusted the transfer for the first time last weekend on my Apex and the jam nut was extremely tight. I put the supplied wrench on and had to hit it with a hammer to loosen the nut. When I tightened it back up I lightly hammered the wrench in order to snug it up. Is this the correct procedure? It seems the supplied tool likes to slip out of the grooves and I found it not to be all that user friendly. What does a guy do if he wants to adjust the rod on the trail?

I had to losen mine with a huge pair of channel locks. After I adjusted it I made sure it was loose enough I could adjust it with the tool. Haven't had any problems adjusting it since...
I adjusted mine to "max" transfer and am afraid that if I didn't get it tight it would come loose and I may jeopardize the rod itself.

they can be a bear to loosen for the first time, try to make a point on checking it before or after every ride, cause if it come loose and back's out it will bend and maybe damage you track

I also had to use channel locks to break the nut loose. Before I tightened it back up, I spread some anti-sieze paste on the threads and on the mating surfaces of the nut and the rod.
