in October I bought a new non current 2012 apex xtx machz Robbie installed mcx 315 kit and I couldn't be happier ,he did an amazing job on setting up the sled and stone 88 set up the clutching a big thanks to both those guys.On Saturday I finally got to race a zr9000 turbo with a 280 tune with meth and I was running 12lbs on pump gas ,the cat wanted to go from a rolling start and holy s#@% I left him from start to finish I was amazed how bad I beat him ,he thanked me for kicking his #*$&@ lol now I understsand the addiction!!!

Serious horse power.... I know cats can be fast and look great, but they just sound like sh@t.
Nothing sounds like a 4 cylinder 4 stroke tubo Yamaha.........at least on snow.

Nice of you to only run 12 psi !!!!
If you had wicked it up to 15 psi, you would have really embarrased him.
I run mine mostly at 10 psi sometimes 12.
The first year I ran it @ 15.5 and it was just too crazy for an enjoyable trail ride.

Nothing like starting small. [315]

LOL

Enjoy

Funny you brought this up! I have a 2012 Apex with a MCX 200 kit that I bought used from stone 88. I have raced a couple Turbo Cat's over the past couple years with the latest being a 15 9,000 with a 240 kit. I have been staying at 5 LB or so and completely embarrassed the 240 HP Cat with a lot of witnesses! The only thing I can come up with is that chasis must really be inefficient, probably part of the reason the Vipers generally don't pull good top end?

Glad you had fun Greg! Only thing I love better then building a turbo kit for myself - is building one for a good friend to enjoy! Only bad part of the day was when I lost a race to you!! Guess Ernie gave you the "good" clutching LOL!!

He started small alright - rods, pistons, long head studs - he's good for 20+ Pounds no problem!! Picture of his brand new motor laying on a table!

Well turn that up 8# with a little race gas mixed and watch it roar to life and at 10# only good for 5-600' is unreal. On another note I have put my big turbo to rest and am parting everything out and I am playing with my baby MCX 190 Viper and loving it its time for a change the only thing that would be better is the Apex motor in the Viper chassis with low boost.

Hi stone! I have a plan with Allen Ulmer and a Nytro to run the pump gas/trail sled shoot out they have been running here in Wisconsin so if that all works out I will leave my Apex as it is just because it handles the volume of sleds I run into and just works so well every where else. If the Nytro don't work out I may have to do a fuel pump PC-V/ignition module to pull timing so I can run 10 LB on pump gas.

How does the MCX Viper run? Is it an over achever like all the rest of the MCX kit's?

Kviper When is that trail turbo race? I have my viper finally dialed in after extensive updating by Ulmer. I missed last yrs race due to completely torn limiter straps.

Should be March 7th. There starting to talk about it on HCS now. ST Germaine was last weekend, sounds like they had about 18 sleds with like 16 finishing the trail ride. LOL! It's trail sled, pump gas. Not sure on the rest of the rules, sounds like they are talking about some changes?

I think there was a Turbo Viper that ran last weekend, think it finisher in the middle of the pack? No idea on Turbo kit or power level. I just need to figure out if the one at Cable will interfere with our other racing. We will need to look each other up!

Just checked, the Viper last weekend was a push Kit and finished 10th out of 16 ish.

I know last year a ton of sleds did not finish the trail ride. I have the Viper dialed in and last weekend ate a D&D xf 1100 reflashed to "300 hp" for lunch. I passed him on the trail and he could not keep up. When I passed him hit the horn "Beep Beep" his eyes were as large as oranges. I stopped later and they cought up, he would not run me side by side! I was going so fast I tried to turn on the camera but could not till it was too late.

After all my work on this sled I really want to see what I have.

Go in to HCS and read some of the setup's. Sounds like some are 151"-162" some what purpose built yet trailable sled's. From what I have read 280 on meth and pump gas is about the best you will see out of a Cat and pump gas so I would question 300? One said his sled track dynoed 140 HP, that would be about 245HP motor. I would guess about the best you will run into in a Cat on the trail is 260

If I don't run the shoot out there is always endles lake racing going on to have plenty of fun with. I had a lot of fun last year on the groomed track when they were done!
