In the trees and out of the wind, we get 4 to 6 feet of super soft powder until mid winter.

Has anyone had luck doing powder turns and sidehilling with a VK Pro?
Will that ripsaw track stay on top if you use power and reverse steering to carve a short turn?

I'm assuming that the best powder setup is a hard setting on the ski shocks for good steering response and keep the limiter strap at the stock position (slack) to be able to lift the weight off the skis under power.

But what about the suspension shock settings? Does it make a difference in powder to set the suspension shocks firmer than the soft stock setting as long as the weight on the machine is only a 180 pound driver and you are not towing?

Also will 11" wide ski skins keep you from ever doing a proper powder turn?

Don't forget that these machines weigh over 800 pounds. I go off trail alot here in Maine and the beast is a handful...not what you would call "flickable" in the deep stuff. In snowfields or on a lake in deep powder, you can do the reverse steer turns but it is not like my wife's new Renegade that's for sure! I'm 170 pounds so maybe if I was larger and stronger I could toss the VK around better. I joke with other riders that when the VK decides to head into a ditch or hollow, it's going...not much I can do but hit the brakes. I will say that I have not been so stuck that I could not get out myself by reverse, forward, reverse, etc. I carry a rope comealong and 150' of rope in case I do need help.

I bought this machine to replace a Pol WT and I have no regrets. The Pol worked hard to drag trails and the VK does it effortlessly while getting double the MPG. We haul a big sled with 1000# of fire wood easily. The low range is great. The VK can cruise at 75 all day long and I've had it up to 90 on ideal packed trails. Just don't expect it to handle bumps fast or corner like a sport sled. The rear suspension is probably the one area that Yamaha could improve.
