Jabber, just a couple questions for you. You say the mountain skis? Are these aftermarket skis from someone or stock skis on a certain year sled? Also....how heavy are you having these settings? With the limiter strap 3/4 synched up, where are you running your front springs? Last but not least....regearing to 20/40 tooth w/ 68 link chain, does this increase track speed or engine RPM's or what? What does it do to low-end or top-end? Thanks for the post! You are like the only one that has actually posted settings. I will certainly try these if I am anywhere close to your weight range. I am about 6' and #190lbs.

The mountain skis that I am using are the skis from an 05 RX-1. I have not changed the spring pre-load on the front skis yet ( I will test new setting tommorow and post ) The gear change to 20/40 cost about $250 canadian and is the best mod I have done on a limmited budget. Last year I wasn't able to keep up to my brothers 800 rev now I'm right beside him in 24" of powder. Your belt will run much cooler with lower gearing and the top end speed loss you will never notice. When the wife lets me I will re-clutch to the 05 specs. By the way, I weigh 200 lbs plus the weight of my pack. Jan 1 I will be comparing my 04 sled to 3 other 04 sleds with stock and/or 05 clutching. I will post results for us poor out of the box guys.

went and tested setup against other stock rx1's. My setup is deffinatley much better. better in the powder and highmarked the others by about 25%. love the gear reduction.

Glad to hear you liked the gear change but not sure why it cost $250 Can??? You can get both gears for $85 from MPI......you could accomplish the same gearing by just buying a 42 tooth (21/42) for $45. Just a thought.

Jabber, glad to hear that you liked the new setup. Did you ever play with the front suspension springs? Where are they at for your setup? I will do this and see how I like it. Thanks for the repost!

I tightened the front end spings 3/8 inch more than stock settings. not too sure if this made a big difference, alittle better on the trail though.

You guys with the '03/'04 skids might want to take a look at doing my skid modification. Tunda asked me about it for his buddy with a Mtn Max. ans mmmkokanee just did it to his sled '03 RX-1 mtn. It's easy to do and free if you have the tools to do it. I am running my limiter straps in the front at full out and am going to soften the rear spring once I find my spanner wrench. Just go to the "tranfer kit" thread and you can see a picture of the mod, some pictures of my sled in action along with a discussion of what it does for the ride.
If you want details on what to do let me know and I'll find the thread explaining how to do the mod.
