Need to cross to an island and the lake is now open for just about a mile
where the current is

You may make it, but if something were to go wrong which is always a possibility, you may find yourself floating in the cold water for a couple minutes. Then you’ll realize your to far to get help in time, get hypothermia and die. Don’t be a statistic and get a boat! Play in the water in the summer if you want to do a mile. The water would be warm and a boat can help if you get in trouble. Should always have a plan B if things were to go wrong.:o|

I have decides not to try the water crossing will wait for water to open to use a boat, safety first

Is there any precautions that one can do to make sure it will cross water
eg. stop belt from getting wet

You will have no problem with getting the belt wet on the Apex because the belt is nowhere near the water if your hard on the gas like me. You can see that in the photo. The only thing you got to watch is giving it too much gas and flipping right over on your back.

It's hard to believe how much power this machine got and the traction it gets on the water.
