Yamaha transporter
Been out of Yam sledding for awhile but looking at getting back in.
Want a lighter sled I can go into bush and make trails with. The 40 yr old Bravo’s ain’t it .
Eyeing the Yam Transporter lite 400cc or the Venom mountain mostly the same and a few 2020 Transporter 600cc no longer made???
Problem is things are very Artic Cat now and I’m reading about these new 2-stroke engines having issues ? WTH.
Running lean , over heat codes etc...
Thinking Yam is making business decisions to benefit Yam/Cat ??
Transition pain telling me to look elsewhere .
Light utility sled suggestions please ......

There are no more light utility sleds. Even a new tundra is a pig and handling is scary. I believe the transporter light is the only one you could consider light enough for breaking trail just not sure of reliability. if you want Yamaha Buy an old Venture LT. With the bullet proof 485 fan and 151 track with tipped rail, this sled will break trail like no other and if you get stuck going forward it will always back up. Very underrated utility sled more maneuverable than a wide track and powerful enough to tow or get you through the slush on the lake.
Maybe a Polaris Adventure 550 with the 155 would also be decent but probably still not a one man throw around sled.

welcome!

i am eyeing the transporter lite as well to replace betsy when they get all the bugs out of it. first season with this engine so i expect some issues while the bugs get worked out.

the transporter 800 has been running under the cat flag as the norseman for a few seasons, so most of its bugs should be adressed. added bounus is the engine has been out for more than a few seasons.

the vk 540 V is basically the same as the old vk540 III. as it is an air cooled sled, it is still pretty light. just sucks when it gets stuck in the slush, witch is not often. they are still pure yami sled. good news is there is lots of room under the seat for a farm jack/jack all to lift it up when it gets stuck bad. when i know conditions are bad i carry one under the seat on mine to save my back on the days i expect to stick the sled a lot.

yamaha release date is march 9th,i would wait till after lauch:yam:

Thanks guys for intel.
If you don’t want a used bravo being that it’s a bit too low on the height and technology?
The new 400cc 2-stroke Artic cat engines are not right according to the new owners in the Transporter lite threads.
Venture lites still weigh a ton.
I guess a sub 500 lb utility/sport sled is the best we’re going to get?
Can’t bring myself to buy a new Yama-Cat to then find the engine “not so good”. Ridiculous.
What a headache trying to choose, lol.

VK540 is a nice sled for breaking trails, towing a pull sled, working around the camp at the lake or just enjoying trail riding, its fan cooled and pure Yamaha and has been proven reliable but is not a trail rocket, the transporter is a nice sled if you don't mind cross breeds and the problems that come with that, some are experiencing some hiccups that need to be sorted out soon.
