just wondering what everyone uses to protect garage floor from picks and carbides from gouging floors. I getting sick of gouging my floor up plywood works but without having a way to secure it to the floor it tends to shoot out from under the track. anybody have any good ideas?

dollies. I never ride my sled into the shop anymore. My floor is epoxy coated and I dont like to tear it up. When I pull up to the door I stop outside on the concrete and throw dollies under the skis and then drive it in. No studs on my stuff, but in the past I just threw one under the track and pushed it in. Eric

I have dollies and a rec lift with rollers but my problem is that I have decent sized lip going in and out of my garage so the rollers wont go over it then I have to stop in the driveway open door and then tried to ride in over the lip without tearing up my driveway and then my garage. also the same going out have to pull out of garage with out spinning track and carbides digging into floor just a big pain in the #*$&@

Dollies and I bought the Yamaha ski boots
The boots work great for loading the sled on and off the trailer then it just takes 30 seconds to remove them.

I put down a big heavy rubber mat that I bought online - worked quite well - you can roll it up for summer storage - got 4 years out of it and I need to get a new one this year
As far as plywood, you can put threaded anchors in the four corners to hold it in place - I tryed plywood, but it got wet and started to delaminate

don't run studs and use dolly's for the skis. thats what we use for our garage. IMO studs just cause trouble.

If you want to use plywood, rubber mat, etc., its a good idea to secure it down. A couple of tapcons in the back corners is all it takes.
If its already gouged up and you want to repair, use NON-SHRINK GROUT, available in the cement area of any building supply store (i.e. home depot).

we are going to use the plastic trailer runners this year and tapcon them to the floor drive in back out we don't have studs to worry about though. you could just put plywood down for the track and studs

I built my own dollys from the little caster wheels you can get at walmart and some 2x4 stickers that most luberyards throw away about 20 bucks for wheels and another couple dollars for screws. Then i just leave the sled on them all the time makes it easy to clean around the garrage and move the sled. I build a set for every sled

for those of you that are using rubber mats when you drive up on them do the scags dig in and make it difficult to move?

This is the one I used - it is the ribbed one and it stays in place quite well

I also have a shop dolly to move the sleds around once they are in on the mat

I use used conveyor belting from our local quarry. Comes is 3-4 foot widths. Allows me to run machines into heated garage with out damage to floor. It works great.

We just put down some 4X8 sheets of plastic sheeting about 1/2 in thick works great and not slippery when wet. and for 20 bucks a sheet it was cheap!!
