WHERE DO I START??

Okay that’s easy. Get a transfer enhancement kit from Mountain Performance for $50.00. Lose the transfer rods, lose 5lbs and gain low speed maneuverability. After you break in your sled get the ECP filters, a bit under $250.00, and gain horsepower and lose 4lbs off the front. You might also consider a smaller battery and save at least 6lbs. You might want to wait till the first oil change to put it in because you will need to remove the battery anyway to get to the filter.

You will also need to add a coolent shut off for the carburators and shutoffs for the fuel lines. Order 3 Skidoo Summet valves,$45.00, and that will fix you up.

Most mountain owners who use the machine to its potential experience track ratcheting. So for next year start saving for a fully clipped track $560.00, Wahl Bros Racing anti ratchet drivers, about $190.00 installed if you send them your drive shaft. I've had good results going with a finger track over a paddle one. I got $275.00 for my stock track by posting it for sale at Snowest.com.
Also it won't save weight but a reverse comes in handy quite a bit. $530.00 from Port Yamaha. One last thing when you change your track rip out what’s left of the heat shields and you're set.

Good question I was not sure of that one either..... I had the transfer kit on my MTN Max and loved it will most likely do it on the stroker too!!

Rx-1 Diet Plans

I have an 03 rx-1mtn and loved the sled until I took into the deep Powder. I have done the following to lighten it up and make her float.
1. Purchased Lite wt. battery from MPI Then remounted battery to sterring colum above motor. Also removed Battery holder and extra Ground wire.
2. Removed Tool Box and storage compartment.
3. Installed K&N Filters Jetted Carbs w/ 165 main jets(ride at 6000-8000 ft) Removed Large over weight, over constrictive, snow sucking up air box.
4.Tightened up Front shock of rear suspension up 1 click.
5. Removed Sway Bar this weighs 2 lbs.
6. Removed Bag and Padding on Handle Bars this wieghs 1lb.
7.Most importantly Purchased a set of Simmons Skis These Skis are awesome My wife rode my sled for 5 mins. and now wants a pair for her viper.
Took sled out on 1/1/04. I was very pleased w/ the performance in deep powder and the increased power w/ the K&N filters. My wife couldn't believe that it was the same sled!
I had plans to remove the Weight transfer bars in order to make the stock suspension like the MPI wt transfer kit, but have put that on hold since I love the way it handles now.
If you have any question feel free to e-mail me.

Reducing Sled Weight

I have done everything that RX-1MTNMAN has done with the exception of the airbox. Weight has also been removed from the sled by taking rubber flap of that covers carbs, removing those plastic snow deflectors by the front suspension, 1LB of rotating mass from brake rotor by drilling aprox. 100 holes to vent the disc, removed all 6 idler wheels in rear suspension (more rotating mass), and lost another 13.5lbs by installing GP-1 exhaust. Yamaha seems to have gone out of there way to make the sled heavy!!!

rx1mtnman has listed most of the good "cheap" ideas. Everybody gives me crap for my "tupperware" airbox, but it saves six pounds for $8 and works perfect. Also, relocating a MPI battery to the cavity in the nose casting allows removal of the battery bracket (2.2lb). Removing the light pod requires a little "fab" work but saves 4.6lbs for $100. Holtz suspension and a-arms (40.5lbs, $1700) and qc-1 exhaust (11lbs,$400) make a monster difference, but'll cost ya.
