Are there any downfalls to putting a taller windshield besides being warm?

Nope, I replace all my stock shields with the mid-height shield from the dealer acc. catalog. Even the stock shield from the Attak is too cold!

I have an attack that I replaced the stock windshield with the biggest one in the Yamaha accessory catalog. I ride mostly in Mi. UP and stay warm.
Go with the mid- hgt. you'll love it. tall is to high and bends at high speeds. buy from yamaha.

I thought the stock Attak windshield was the mid-height (14.25") . . .

Powermadd has a new high windshield that is heavy duty enough not to have the supports needed by the tall windshield Yamaha makes. I'm going to buy it soon. Go to new products at Powermadd.

the taller windshield from powermadd with out any type of supports will for sure give you the headlight in the trees at night at higher speeds, the lightweight bracket that the headlight pod mounts on will bent with the added stress of the taller windshield, the stock attak shield is 14" hi but only the little center part so it doesnt offer near the amount of protection as the mid height out of the acc catalog

Guys,
If you are riding in really cold conditions and you want to be warm, buy the tall one for sure. I have the mid height windshield and it doesn't protect you worth beans. I don't really care how the machine looks, I just want to be warm. If the headlights are going to be in the trees then I will adjust the headlight accordingly. I just want to be warm.

That depend which mid height you are referring to. The stock Attak is considered a mid-height, and I agree that it is worthless. The accessory mid-height is much better at keeping the wind off the driver. Get the genuine mid-height from Yamaha and you will be happy. Don't just throw on the Attak mid-height, that is the worthless one. Huge difference between the two!

If you look over at my avatar you will see the windshield I have on now. When it is really cold the windshield still does not keep the wind off of you. I'm going higher yet with the powermadd one.

Normally larger is a no brainer. But here the accessory mid was a better choice because I did not want to install the funky looking support brackets.
The front/ headlight assy is VERY flimsy on the delta II sleds.
Anything bigger than the mid, at speed because of the air pressure, the tabs will bend possibly even break, either way your headlight aim becomes more into the trees.
Going bigger than the mid is fine, but no way would I do it without adding support
