Okay, my 03 shorty is runniing great and with the ECP filters ad stage 2 kit i have all the power I need except how do I get the power to the ground so I can get decent hookup on the hardpacked and icy trails. I don't drag race and I rarely do top end speed runs. I guess I am basically a common trail rider. I have never had a studded sled so I really dont know where to begin doing a HOME STUDDING job on my track.

I have a Camo 9818- 1.25 track with about 600 miles on it.

What studs should I buy, what do I need to do this and what stud pattern works for trail riding. I know that I need a track drill. Where is the best place to buy or order.

I was against studding until I purchased my RX1. I finally gave in and bought Woody's Megabites, 1.375" for my 136" Ripsaw track. Boy, what a difference. I am a believer. I listened to 50% of the people say do it and 50% of the people say don't. I will never, and I mean never ride another sled that is non-studded again. These studs have saved my butt in several situations this year. Yes, I was going to fast, but sometimes things just happen. I only have 135 or so installed and I am going to go with a total of 160+ by the end of the season. I believe they even help me in off trail riding when the going gets very rough and the track digs down to the ground. As far as patterns, I am not sure what is best, my mechanic found a patteren he liked and that is what he gave me. I am very happy with the decision. I thank all of those posters that encouraged me to install them. I hope this helps.

Go with 162 studs down the middle.. eather 1.325 or 1.375 but no longer..

Get a plastic pattern and a cutter.. its easy too do but time consuming!

I will never ride my sled without studs..

I to have never ridden with studs untill this year! Last year on my first day out I got stuck in the middle of an ice chute. I put the brake on and continued to slide into the guy behind me! A couple hundred in repairs would have payed for the studs! I put 120 up the middle on my 03 shortie, never have I felt more safe! Completely different! And will run them the rest of my life! I used woodys gold diggers, 1005s on the stock track. Honk

I have used alot of studs (Woody's, Fasttrac's, Studboy's etc) and I find the Roetin's the BEST stud I have ever used...WHY? They are very light and very strong. I used the Studboy PowerPoint Aluminum Backers....awesome! The Powerpoints are thicker and larger diameter and give that much more durablility.

I am running a 96 pattern down the center (Saftey Studding Only) with NO problems whatsoever and hookup on hardpack is excellent.

I have an 04 RX1 ER...does the same recommendations that many of you posted apply for the 04 model ? I need studs bad! As a first time rider and snow mobile owner I am very satisfied thus far...its a blast! BUT...when my sled starts fish tailing I freak out and back off the throttle. I have only had the sled up to 75 MPH...I know...I know...you guys are going WHAT??? i guess I am just trying to make sure I take it all in and learn the right way before going out and doing something stupid.

I am not certain but I think the tracks are thicker for the o4's than the 03's which is why I am asking what type of studs to buy and how long. What can I expect to pay? How long should they be? and how many to get?

Please Help? Thanks

ToZlo RX!

What ever studs you decide to get make sure that you have at least .25" of penetration. That's all I have and it's plenty.

Don't go by the way the manufacturers measure b/c they all measure differently.

I have 162 down the middle on my warrior. Hooks awesome and no clea rance problems as long as you keep your track tension tight. !!
I used Red Tip Power studs 1.4" stainless steel with blue anadized aluminum backers (which look very cool on my blue beast). I ordered them from Corkys. Com at a very nice cost (much less than woody's or studboy etc. ) I have about 250 miles on them so far and I am very impressed with them. no bending or signs of wear at all !! Check it out, I think you will like the savings.

Hey welterracer, ive got the inch and a quarter ripsaw with what i believe are inch and a half studs but the complete lenth of the stud is an inch and 11 1/6 just slightly less then an inch and 3/4 and im worried that may not be sufficient clearance, what do ya think

DO NOT BUY FAST-TRAC TOP GUN II!!!!!!! These studs have got to be the worst studs I've ever installed or helped anyone install!!! I put 144 in my girlfriends rx-1 and at least 20-30 had to chased with a thread die., and one needed to be cut off!! The threads suck, way to sloppy. It took 8hrs over 2 days to complete this project, 2 other sleds were done (96) each before we were half done. Terrible quality, I only hope they hold up now that they are tight. Next time I'll spend the extra coin and buy woodys, never had a problem with their product. Now I know!!!
