Now that I will shortly be back in the turbo game I am researching turbo options. The 2560 has me intrigued. I saw ferns converted powderlites & he praises how well that unit performs vs the 2554. Ok...so whats the catch???? If tthe 2560 is busloads(quote from superted) faster then the 2554 ; spools as quick & is about the same cash-o-la why aren,t the "KIT" manufacters using it on their units? There has gotta be a negative to the 2560 vs the 2554 but I can,t find it???

I certainly can't speak for the kit makers, but when this all started the goal was 180-220 HP. Also a lot of people wanted to run on pump premium.
The small turbo served the purpose for the majority of kit buyers. But like everything else, everyone wants more and more.

the way that i understood it that a base kit cost is
4500.for a lake/race kit its 5500 and the only difference is the turbo.why can't i substitute the base kit turbo for the lake/race turbo for the same price.maybe the lake/race kits come with other upgraded items.

Gt2560/ GT2554/Gt2854
Crack headers, Very hot runing underhood temps, No top speed, A differance of over 14 MPH climbing mountains at same boost as GT2860RS.
This which turbo to use on Apex is been beat to death on forms but we out west pound on the side of a very steep and deep mountains where the guys soon know who's got it right! We have used GT2560's when we started out and Northest Turbo's used them as well as CPR
As a manufacturing turbo kit company and not just into selling parts or turbos I won't even use gt2560 on FX Nytro because of how much better we can setup a complete kit with GT2860RS with some extra work done to turbo.
I can sell you what ever turbo you want and can give you a good price.
I have changed out turbos for a lot of guys out west.

I replaced at 2554 on my powderlites kit with the 2560 they aren't in the same league. The 2560 is a much better turbo with the same spool and a ton more top end. The 2554 seems to run flat up top at least it did for me.

I believe Turk was comparing 2560 to 2554 not the 2860rs.

I tried doing a search on the 2554 vs the 2560 & came up with squat initially. Thanx for that answer dave. Coincidentally the sled i bought has your kit. I know there was a trade off (gain somewhere but it costs ya somewhere else) but never heard what it was. thanx for the info!!!!

I ran a 2860RS last year, it had poop for top end headers did crack and for a front mount it didnt spool quick . What works in the mountains does not mean it works at sea level. I have a new Simons kit in my hands and doing install starting tommorow. I am using the 2560 as well with the Jannetty header and E-Boost 2 for a controllerand a 144 track to tame it.

At the time the Turbo kits were designed the 2554 was about 200.00 -300.00 cheaper than the 2560, the smaller size made fitment easier, and served the purpose of the trail turbo kits at 7-10 psi.
Like everything else in life things evolve, more is now know about how much boost these engines can really take, what mods work best, and what turbos fit what type of riding you do etc. etc. etc.
Dave even you started with the 2554 and worked your way up to what now is the 2871.
If you plot the maps the 2860r with the 62 trim is even better then the 2560r is on the maps, even at mid range its in a better section, and up at 20 lbs of boost it really shines, so it might be even better to have a turbo you can "grow" into. Like anything else good in life, always want more...

Talk to me or your turbo sales guy and ask for the turbo you want in the kit when you purchase it.
