It realy depends on what your all doing. Are we drag racing with a stock RX1 engine, stock compression, stock timing, under 16lbs boost for 500-600 feet, then a 2560 will work just fine for you. When you drop compression, retard timing raise boost levels, run longer distances the exhaust temp's sore to the moon and have a extreme effect on back pressure, a 2560 is toooo small!!!!!!!!!!
Now if you have a Apex, The ball game changes again. Now we have bigger cams to add to the complexity and higher RPM, more air flow, more heat, more more more. GT2560's are out of the question. I agree with Ted for short runs on RX1's but Dave at Powederlites is spot on for Apex's and more powerful engine's with 18 lbs plus of boost.
The right fuel can also have BIG effects on the whole program also, and I believe most guys are making the wrong choices there too. Pump gas sucks for turbocharged and supercharged engines, and there are so many different race fuels it's not easy or should I say too easy to make the wrong choice!!!!!!
You can't have it all your way and it will cost you more to change once the boost monster bites you in the A**.

I think we are drifting away from the question.
This subject is not that cut and dry, each person rides differently and runs different boost levels so each turbo can be fitted to each person like a pair of shoes, there IS a perfect fit available for each individual.
If you want to post some scenerios I will match a turbo to those.

I'm NOT Drifting, The question was, Why don't turbo guys use a 2560 in there kits? I tried to explain why, You, Ted always have to make it sound like you and only you have the answer to the question. I believe I gave a brief explanation why. Your 2560 fits only a small nitch of turbo users. It's too small for high HP applications and Apex's in general, their are better choices depending on what a guy want's to do. I'm not going try and pick a turbo over the internet for guys without knowing their exact application. Buy kits and don't ask if you don't get get into it DEEPLY and pick a specific application.
Don't twist what I say around too fit the hole you dug yourselve in.

i have a 2560 on my sled and it out performs my 2554 big time.i have no problems racing it at 18 pounds or trail riding it at 10 pounds.as a matter of fact i won races today in norway house with this turbo .i have no heat issues with it either.i understand what turk is saying .but the aftermarket has to make money too, that is why people upgrade .i am very happy with the turbo i got off ted .thanx ted.

I'm totally off topic here, but tell me about your experiences with different race fuels....

Turbo Jamie
Turbo Jamie!
Can you please check the numbers on your old turbo!
I am pretty sure you had a GT2854 with your kit and you can't compare double down pipe to single on any turbo.
You always have advice but get that facts straight before you post info on here.
Top speed and way better throtle response came from the pipe and top end didn't all come from GT2560 turbo.
Airfilter alone can make or break it in this turbo stuff.

Rexx,
Don't mean to blow this off but, this is a deep subject. Things like Boost, compression, timing, turbo, cam timing, A/F ratio's, RPM, distance, etc etc etc all factor in on the proper fuel to use. I've been playing with fuels for a number of years and will continue probably forever, one thing for sure is Pump gas sucks for Turbo's. Match your octane for the boost your running. Generally speaking, although not necessarily, higher octane fuels burn slower. Too much octane is hard to lite in cold weather and a waste of money however, not enough is Disaster. Watch the Vapor Pressure numbers as they can help you. Try and stay away from low numbers ie. 1-5 for the cold temps. Don't use fuels with a lot of light fractions for high boost aplications but some are helpful to get the mixture to lite, don't need tails in 4 stroke engines as they tend to make heat in the pipes, good for 2 strokes though. VP has a lot of fuels one to suit everyones needs. Sunoco is generally OK. I use Phillips as I have all the specs on that fuel and blend to suit the application.

Now that I will shortly be back in the turbo game I am researching turbo options. The 2560 has me intrigued. I saw ferns converted powderlites & he praises how well that unit performs vs the 2554. Ok...so whats the catch???? If tthe 2560 is busloads(quote from superted) faster then the 2554 ; spools as quick & is about the same cash-o-la why aren,t the "KIT" manufacters using it on their units? There has gotta be a negative to the 2560 vs the 2554 but I can,t find it???
Take it easy this is why I thought we were drifting away from the original question, see above in bold red.
