I have 12,000 km on my 2004 Rx1. Skid is gonna need a total redo. Ill need a new track soon too. Ive been looking at Nytros. The're some good prices this time of year. So...why should I trade the Rx1 in. Im a novice rider. After riding my buddies MXZ I knew I wouldnt have the RX1 for long. I like the four stroke so that why Im looking at the Nytro.
Are skis the really only major thing needed for the nytros? I am 170 lbs
Thanks

spring rates and valving should be no big deal. Is there a big difference between the FX and the RTX? Theres a really good deal on a brand new 2009 fx

Don't forget Yamaheaters if you want warm hands.
And larger idlers to reduce slider wear.

I did this very thing; I traded in my 2003 RX1 with 9800 miles on it for a 2010 Nytro RTX SE.

I love the Nytro but there's some things to take note of-

Your RX1 is a 4-cylinder and the Nytro's a 3. There's a little difference there in smoothness not having 4 cylinders. The Nytro has EFI... (I'm guessing you know these things but still worth mentioning)
The Nytro's a "colder" sled without a doubt. As Grimm said, get Rock's Yamaheater with BOOST. You might also want to opt for a taller shield as well.
The Yamaheater makes a big difference and it's something you really will enjoy.

One of the other things I noticed with my Nytro is the high RPM engagement of the clutch. Really touchy IMHO and a clutch kit is something I'd suggest. The Nytro's riding position is different than the RX, I have the SE with the Fox Float suspension, and I really like to ride standing up a lot and it's perfect for that. My RX was setup more as a long distance trail sled and not so much as a ditch-banger. I've been modding my Nytro and I don't regret the change to the Nytro. It's just a different "feel" that takes a little adjustment. The reverse "shifter" on the RX1 was much better. I also liked having separate switches for the thumb warmer and grips on the RX1. On the Nytro they are on the same side.

I enjoy my Nytro quite a bit more now as I have become used to it, it's a fun sled.

Good luck with whatever you do!

Thanks a lot for the input. Where do you get these yamaheaters?
Is the nytro uncomfortable for the long hauls. I like doing long trips. I love to stand up anyway.

I think the seating postion on these are perfect in which in one way will get you through a long ride. I am 6'1 and remember how sore my hips and knees would get on my Apex after a long ride. We just did 450 miles in 2.5 days (110,220 and 120 mile days) and I felt great for work on Monday.lol We ran into a couple of guys (on Fx Nytros) who rode from Rochester to Tug Hill (and back) 6.5hrs each way...

I'm all for the Nytro's. My last sled was a 2004 RX1 MTN and with arthitic shoulders I could no longer turn my tank. I'm 6'2" around 270 and ergonomics compared to the RX make up for 3 vs. 4 cylinder, grip heaters or bigger windshields. Try and get to ride on one even for a 1/2 hr on some trails. You are definately going to feel the differance.

Yamahabandit If you want an old fashioned ride then I agree an Apex or Vector is the way to go! If your looking for a rider forward position with agressive handling and appearance then it's the Nytro. I have no idea why guys buying Nytro's should be buying or looking at Vector's or Apex's.
The differance is Apples to Oranges.
