since my work is shutting its doors soon. :o| we have been cleaning everything up around the shop. anyway i came across a 2 complete IHI RHF5 ball bearing turbos, complete, off of honda 1200 aquatrax's. my thinking is that one would be suitable for an apex motor seeing as though they were for about the same cc engines. any thoughts? would i be wasting my time trying to gather the rest of parts needed for a turbo install? i would want to leave the motor as stock as i can and run low boost. would still need to run pump gas. these are wastegated turbos ment for an engine to run on pump gas. :drink:

i don't know the flow rate on those turbos but most OEM turbo setups use an overly small turbo to get fast spool and leave a lot of performance on the table. Also the turbo isn't the expensive part of a build, its all the supporting mods that will nickel and dime you to death.

yeah i was kinda having that feeling. i just thought that i would ask since i got them for free. im not looking for crazy bost power. if i saw 200 hp that would be perfect. the honda 1200 were right around there 215hp maybe. the 1500 turbos are like 256hp or more. these turbos i have are from the 1200 motors. ive been wanting to boost this sled since i got it. but bounced back and forth between sc or turbo. but then the big money thing also falls into play. i just thought if i could piece something together over the next year i might be able to afford it.

yeah been thinkin of sellin the turbos. cant sell my sled as im still paying on it and wouldnt get what i have into it.

copo427ss,

Yeah, it will nickel and dime you something terrible in $$$ and time to build your own.

And then considering your job situation...

Sell the turbo's, use that $$$ to ride your Apex this year.

When you're ready for boost, Full Power Performance in Ellicottville can hook you up with something used, and they aren't that far away from you.

buying a used kit is cheaper than cobbling together the parts (which will still cost a lot more than you think) and then having to install another motor when yours grenades!
Sucks to make payments on a lawn ornament :o|
Don't do it unless you know a lot about boost as it will be tough to get it to run right.
I considered making my 1st turbo kit, but found a used Bender (now Full Power) kit instead ...save your cash!

You know what check out alpine motorsports they have a low boost kit that is a bit cheaper. But also I think that if you know the right people you could piece together a kit there isnt much to them.
