I had a set of Dooley's installed on my Viper and let a friend ride it while on a recent trip. He was complaining about the poor steering a couple of days into the trip, so we inspected the skis. To our surprise, both runners were gone! We had to ride 30 miles to reach a dealer to have a new set of carbides installed. The dealer said it was a common problem with the Dooley's coming off on the trail. Has this happened to anyone else :?:

Woody"s Doolies

I have a set on and after 700 miles I am missing the front stud on one. Probably a matter of time.

I wasn't missing a stud, the whole runner was gone after 300 miles! And not just one but on both skis.

It was if someone unbolted the runners from the skis. Of course, this could have happened but I can't imagine someone stealing the runners off of a sled. I have never lost one runner let alone two. Just curious if this has happend to others. Thanks.

Yes, I lost two new Sno-Stuff wear rods a couple of years ago. They were replaced by the supplier I purchased them from (free). Apparently they knew of poor welding on the studs.
Since then, when installing new wear rods, I use a wire wheel on the stud threads to clean off the paint, and I don't over tighten them.

After this week I have a big concern with the durability of the aftermarket wear bars. The yamaha ones have a larger 14mm shank/shoulder to connect the studs to the host bar. The jobbers do not. Even though the Yami bars wore too quickly for my liking, at least they survived long enough for me to take them off. The last two aftermarket sets (roetin and spx) 'removed themselves'. The studs break off. At first I thought I was 'overtightening'. But the studs just shear off - way before they are worn out.

The solution I'm testing is to cut short (14mm) pieces of 1/4" rubber fuel line and slit them to fit over the studs. These will take the place of the shoulders found on the stock bars and hopefully dampen the jars/vibrations.

I like JDKRXW's thoughts too. It wouldn't hurt to check/add some weld to the studs.

Next I'm just going to bolt some pieces of angle iron to the skis.

As a follow up, I called Woody's earlier this evening and asked the techician if this was a common problem. He said they were not aware of problems with loosing the whole unit on any sleds. He also give me the feeling that they are going to send me replacements for free, but I am waiting to hear back from them. Will keep you informed.

I lost one dually and had 2 broken bolts on the second one in 350 miles. Ask sketr2 (aka skeeter peter) what happens when you injest one into the track at 60 plus.

Holy crap!

Thanks Woody's, for spending your money on marketing instead of testing...

One thing I saw wrong with this design is it's sturdyness, too stiff for a flexible ski.

The only time I've heard of Bergstroms doing that is with Recreation Products' early skis, very flexy.

You should have no problem with Bergies guys, and they'll last for seasons. Hope you get it resolved.

ive got a set of 6 inches on mine ,,,, They rock.... no darting..effortless stearing....

look like new yet

woodys doolys

I just replaced mine today. I ran a set of 4" doolys all last year. I put on about 1500 miles on them and liked 'em allot. I just up graded to the 12mm stabilizer bar, longer arms and 6"doolys. I hope they don't fall off!

I've got 3 sets of Woody's 6" doolys on my 3 sleds. I put them on last year and have about 1000 - 1500 miles on them. They all look good, but I quess I'll keep a sharp eye on them. Best runners ever for smooth non darting steering !!

I also bought a set of doolys and still waiting to install them..I put a set of shaper bars on last year over 2,500 miles ago and have run over bare parking lot, roads, rocks and everyother thing and they still look like new..
I probaly should of skipped out on the doolys and bought another set of shaper bars....

I put 2100 miles on a set of 6 inch Dooly's last year and plan to start this year with them as they look to be in great shape 8)
