Looking at all the complaining and non complaining about Yamaha’s lack of a new sled, I thought I’d try to put a history or ‘timeline’ of how often Yamaha comes out with a completely new model… I tried to dig back as many years as I could. Feel free to fill in whatever I may have left out. The point of this is to see how often Yamaha brings us a WHOLE NEW SLED based on their history. Some of this may be subjective. For example, I didn’t consider the 09 Nytro worthy just because they added the ‘tipped up rails’. Also when they put the Vector into the DBII, Not a new design. I’m totally unaware of the 2up side of things…redesigns and so forth. I’m not familiar with the SRX/SX/SVX….are these all new designs? Or are they just different motors in the same chassis? I don’t know. Maybe someone can more thoroughly make a new list? Judging by this……(totally due for 2011?) come up with your own conclusions.

I amgoing to sit down tonightand figureout all the chassis changes through the years. Just for fun so to speak. Once I heard the word "HISTORY" all I could think of was "VINTAGE SLEDS"!!!!!
So, I will put a little thought into that one, on the first listing I think the Proaction Chassis (first trailing arm design came out in 1997 with the SX700 and other models. SO that is why I am thinking this is a good comparison based on chassis design.
Talk to you soon,
Steve

I actually have a time line from yamaha. Each model runs for about 5 years before it is replaced. This goes with everything that they make including quads and dirtbikes. They need to run 3 years to make money on them typically.
I can not believe that people are pissed off because the Nytro has not changed. It just came out.

i was thinking along these lines (again, this is subjective) but the warrior 136 is not a new sled. just an RX1 with a longer track. or am i wrong on that one? my other thought was that there is 'little' changes to most models every year. where do you draw the line? track lenght? fuel injection? hand warmers ? in order to not 'clutter' each year up, i thought it would be good to stick to only completley new designs. just my 2 cents. keep'em coming!

Personally I consider the Current Apex to not be substantially different than the RX1. Same basic engine except for EFI and New Ergos and plastic but same basic chasis layout, bulkhead etc...
So to me they haven't really brought out an new sled since '03 and they still haven't bettered the Power to weight Ratio of the Old 1995 V-max 4 800 which was right about 150HP and similar weight to the APEX.
Where is the performance progress? The Apex rides better than the V-Max 4 800, but that's about it.
We're talking 15 years of no progress in terms of performance.
How much faster have 1,000 cc bikes gotten in the last 15 years? What 30-30% more Horsepower and 20% more topend and acceleration?
Time for an Revolution give us something that will feel fast, 150 Hp and 600 lbs just doesn't cut it.
Give us 180HP and 500 lbs.

the phazer and Nytro do not fit the rx-1 mold so yes they have brought out new sleds. Maxdlx
Still waiting for someone to post up the venom in the line up

97 was a huge year for new yammies with their new lightweight 600 twin & 700 triple in that all-new chassis.

I'm cornfused here..........SRXSRULE changed it to list the 144" MM in '97 but I'm absolutely certain 2 of my U.P. buds here had '97 Mtn Maxs @ 136. We had a Mtn Max 600 new in '99 and it was a 136". Are you sure? I could have sworn the 144" MM didn't appear until 2000.
One minor correction.........2002 it's the SXViper........I know because I had an ER for 3 seasons.
Also, didn't 98 bring us the Mtn SRX? it's one and only appearance?

Minor changes I would suggest:
2006 - Apex & RS Nytro
2008 - FX Nytro
2006 - Apex & RS Nytro
2008 - FX Nytro
YamahaOutlaw
Extreme
I say stick to sleds that either had a brand new chassis design, or sleds that had an all new motor. Suspension changes, minor motor mods, track length changes, even something like addition of EFI to vector in 2010 - IMO these don't count as new models.
Just my 2 cents.
