Guides
Yes, it is hard to take picture at the right angle, but both lines are off by the same amount and are not parallel with the head line. Thanks for reposting the pics together. Yes, a worn or incorrectly installed guide would certainly cause this. The motor is apart now and I...
marks
Thanks I had thought of the key being sheared too. However, I just took it apart and the key/slot are both good. One thing I noticed though is the crank has a dimple on the other side of the crank, next to the timing gear drive collar that also lines up, but not exactly, with the...
Pic of tube
Here is a pic of the tube. Notice the end of the hose was cut at an angle from the factory. I can't find any place where a vent line would plug into manifold or engine... any help?
pics
Thanks for the link. I had the same issue of loose chain when putting it together. However, I don't think that is the problem now as the tenioner is working and chain is tight. There doesn't appear to be any slack that would affect the timing. Here are the pics. The first one is hard...
tensioner
Thanks for the tensioner thought. However, the mis alignment I mentioned above existed after the tensioner was installed and the motor turned over a couple times. I will take a pic to show before I tear motor down tonight with tensioner still on.
The sled had 1700 miles... could...
stretched chain
A stretched chain could explain it however, I didn't see any evidence in the engine that would cause it such as bent valves or marks on top of piston. I have put together a lot of OHC car engines and you are right, one tooth off is very noticeable so that is why I am really...
new chain?
Thanks but no I did not replace either the chain or gears. I am thinking the alignment is off too. I will try to take pics tonight when I take it apart.
I am putting together a 07 Phaser 500 4-stroke that I didn't take apart (bought as a basket case). I have service manual and followed the method to install timing chain, cams and tensioner. However, when I lined up the single mark on the alternator hub with the pointer on the alternator...
I just finished rebuilding '07 FX that I did not take apart myself (basket case). I followed the manual and believe I have everything assembled/hooked up correctly. At first I had a code 88 but that was fixed when I attached direction wire. This implies that the puter was working. The engine...
